Question Humming @100 mph

Just out of curiosty, and I know this is probably normal, but I have a 97 Legacy GT. I like to drive it fast, and whenever I get up around 100, I hear a humming noise frm the engine bay. Just curiou if it's something I shopuld worry about. Not like I get up to 100 on a normal basis :P but I was just curious...

I had to cut the ends off of the rear hood seal on my 91 turbo. Not sure if Subaru hadnt figured that out or what but they were just hangin out there. Any way that stopped the racket. THe vibration had caused damage to the seal so I rubber cemented it back down. Use to buzz around 70 but I was doin....well lets say more than that and it worked great!

Hi

I used to have a very loud whistling that started at almost exactly 100mph on my 94GTB, it just got louder over 100. I removed the rubber seal at the rear of the bonnet and the whistling is completely gone, but there is now a humming that starts at 100mph (It is nowhere near as loud though)

I don't get either noise if it is damp weather only in dry air

I've had mine 118-120 and it felt and sounded as smooth as silk. Hope that doesn't make you worry to much. How many miles does it have and have you ever replaced any of the wheel bearings? My 98GT had a bad front bearing at @35,000 miles. And I've heard of rear wheel-bearing problems, but more on the Impreza than Legacy.

The wheel bearing was my thought too....Check your belts, hoses and wiring make sure nothing is rubbing on a belt.

Wheel bearings are my bet too. They went on my wife's Forester. Fortunately, they've been fine on my Legacy. Now if I could just get rid of that weird rasping noise...
