Unhappy crash info.

so way back in late november, My 98 wagon was rearended while parked. A witness said the truck that hit it pushed it forwards about 5 feet, then dragged it backward about another 3 feet in order to get my plastic bumber dislodged from his steel bumper. He then drove off. (I was asleep in my Apt.)

My car is a 5 speed manual and it was parked in 1st with out the e-brake on. Since the accident the car is shifting very notchy, and the clutch seems to slip in 3rd and 4th gear!! it is finally time for me to get insurance work done (busy schedule) and the body shop says i will have to prove it to insurance that the driveline damage is from the accident and not something else!!!!

***!?!? it shifted flawlessly and smoothly before the accident and had no apparrent clutch wear, to me it seems obvious that right after it was plowed into and these problems start that it would be directly related to the accident.

Does anyone know of the damage that was/is or can happen to a driveline from such accidents. I want to go in with at least a little knowledge about potentiol damage from this as well as my rights with insurance company.

thanks guys

the timing of it is not at issue, the response about the shifting problem was the same when i told them initially. they have been aware of it since the initial claim made in november. the time lag is purely due to booking it in for repairs. all i am really looking for out of the group here is any tech knowledge regarding the types of damage that can and does happen from this type of impact.
any info is greatly appreciated.

I'm not aware of any damage that could be caused by this. We used to 'bump' cars all the time to get them started when they had a weak battery. Admitedly we did use 2nd gear, and they weren't AWD.

unfortunatly it was a little more than a bump. it actually pushed my car fowards 5 feet. it also ripped the bumper off, ( i managed to snap it back on...well the 2/3rds that was left of it )
its ammazing to see that behind the plastic it is just a steel bumper and some formed styrofoam.
could it affect the syncro mesh?
