Default MY05 Legacy GT Turbo tranny swap solution!

I posted on here about swapping in the legacy tranny and that subaru made the tranny female for the front axles and not male as traditionally seen in all other subaru. The legacy axles were to long to use and didn't fit at the hub anyways. So with the great help of Scott over at Exeter Subaru in NH, also known as www.subaruwrxparts.com, we came up with a solution. I had to tear apart my L tranny and remove the Tranny axle stub from the internal Front diff that make the tranny male. I then had to get them machined at the end to recieve a C-clip like the legacy axles so I wouldnt have to crack the Legacy tranny open. The legacy axle is thicker where it enters the tranny so I also had to replace the seals there with new seals ment for the impreza L tranny. Below are pictures. I don't know if anyone else will be doing this anytime soon but I would like to have a documented solution. Can a moderator put this in one of the fact files either here or tranny.
Thanks,
Joshua

Top: L axle female at tranny
Middle: L axle converted to Male
Bottom: Legacy GT turbo axle Male
Right: new gaskets, C-clip and part numbers also axle stub removed from tranny and machined to recieve C-clip

Has what you looking for scroll to the bottom.
I'm approaching the end of the big stuff on this project. I have most of the wiring done and most of the mechanical. Today I will be finishing up straightening out the engine bay, and tightening exhuast bolts along with installing front sway bar and pouring in the tranny fluid which finally arrived yesterday after three weeks. After that it looks like about ten wires tops and I can put the dash in and see what happens. So most likely I'll try starting it tomorrow.

I will have to find the thread but you can purchase the parts from Subaru directly so you don't have to get anything machined. I am going to be going this route because the shop I went to didn't put the C clip groove just right so I get some noise.

This was cut from another thread, the seal is directional though so you need a differant part number for one side.
