Question 04' WRX Accessport Stock Map ?

I recently uninstalled my Accessport from my 04' WRX. When the stock Subaru "generic" map is loaded onto the ECU, from the Accessport, how does it know if the vehicle is manual or automatic transmission? Accessports are not sold transmission specific until 06'. Are M/T and A/T stock maps the same for 02'-05'?

Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Russell

Have you gone crazy with the d00000d thing?! That isht is really starting to get anoying here lately.

Anyway, the map that's on the AP as "Stock" is not nessaceraly the same map version you started out with prior to the AP being married. It's more then likely different. As for how the ECU knows if a car is auto or manual... it has to do with a hard wired pin on the ECU. That hard wire is what triggers the ECU to use the different maps in the ECU that pertain to whatever kind of transmission you have. There are 2 boost maps in there for example... one for auto and one for manual. Just FYI.

Actually, FYI, that pin doesn't trigger the ECU to select different maps, only whether or not to try and negotiate communications with the TCU (and throw appropriate trouble codes if it fails).

Also, in answering the OP's question, so long as the CalID is the same, the ECU EEPROM for manual and automatic transmission vehicles are identical... ie, an AF413 AT ECU and an AF423 MT ECU use the same A4SGD10C CalID. Any AF41x and AF42x ECU can be flashed with any of the A4SGxxxx CalID ROMs and be functional (though, perhaps, not optimal).

The 2004 and 2005 WRX ECUs have a different Calibration ID depending on whether the car is manual or automatic transmission. When you revert to stock on those cars, the resulting Calibration ID will be one that Subaru only shipped on cars with automatic transmissions. Which means that if your car is manual transmission, it's not very hard for a dealer to detect that the ECU has been reflashed by someone other than Subaru.

bumping an old thread. Any way to make it so when you revert to stock, the Calib. ID says Manual?
