hopefully just a throttlebody to intercooler hose, the stock wrx one doesnt work so well, it doesnt reach long enough, earlier in the thread it says what size hose you need to order, I think its 2.75in ID and 3in long, then you just have to cut it to fit...go back through the thread a few times and it wont be a problem, trust me.

I don't know how he was using that on a 02 wrx without modding the hoses. You need a longer throttle body hose and the y pipe will need to be lengthened. I actually tried making the cast y pipe longer but it is 10x easier with the samco y-pipe because you have more flex to work with during the install.

It is possible to use STi y-hose if you flex it hard enough, but it will cause intercooler to sit slightly tilted. You will need new y-hose and TB hose for a perfect fitment.

^ exactly.

What I said is assuming you want it to mount in the factory location, which I did because it fits perfectly with the sti splitter/scoop that way.

would it be possible to use to samco throttle body hose as the oem wrx one is too short? or is the samco TB hose identical to the oem wrx TB hose in terms of length?

so the throttle body hose would have to be replaced with a longer hose. Would the y pipe hose replacement be mandatory as well, even though i have the stock sti y pipe included at the purchase of the top mount?

Yes you have to make both hoses longer if you want the intercooler to mount in the stock location. You might be able to jam it on there with the sti y-pipe but its not going to be pretty or easy.

Thanks! Yep, I will get some up tonight. Fit is perfect, sealed just right and definitely took advantage of the extra area the STi tmic gives.
I pretty much learned as I progressed and if I did it again, I wouldn't have had to cut off some of the pieces from the original.....like that long strip of aluminum in the back of it.....but it worked out well in the end.

i just picked up the 2" id hose 90 degree elbow that connects to the turbo/y pipe on the IC. It's leg is 4" long, and from what i read on the first page, i only need to cut 1 cm off on one side?!? I just wanted to clarify this before i go cutting it cuz that hose is a lot longer than the red hose that's attached to the end of the Y pipe on the sti IC. Thank you!

My advice to you would be to mount the tmic without the silicone hoses and start taking measurements from your different points where the hoses will connect with a tape measure or or small ruler. That way YOU will know the right measurement. It's the only way to get it right and not mess it up. I can see where there will be some variance in cars and I would rather do it myself than take a measurement from someone off the internet who may not have the right one in the first place.

^ I Agree with you but those little brackets are going to mount on the same place and be the same size everytime. Here's one of my finished pictures:

Helpful thread!

I have 02 WRX w/ quantum-racing splitter (made to work with STi TMIC), JDM STi hood scoop, samco IC hoses, chimney heat shield.

I need the following:
2.75" OD hose from http://www.stylinmotors.com/turbohose.html to go IC to TB
1 7/8" OD coupler from Advance auto part to extend the silicone "y-pipe"

Am I missing something?

anyone have any info about gc8 with usdm wrx swap and going usdm sti tmic? from what i seen and read, with a usdm wrx swap the ic and hood scoop wont line up correctly because with gc8, usdm wrx motor sits little bit forward in the engine bay. therefore tmic sits little bit front from the hood scoop. so from this, air splitters designed for gc8 hood scoops like gt spec or zerosports splitters won't allign right with ic and air isnt directed efficiently to the tmic. so i was thinking, would it be possible to mod the ic hoses even longer to make the tmic sit little bit more to the back. I'm pretty sure the brakets won't line up and i'm also going to need longer ic to tb hose.

If this would work, i want to do this when i get vf34 and sti tmic. I want to get bigger scoop like MRT 52mm gc8 hood scoop, but iono which splitter to use.

Uptdate:

Just found out that the splitter I have is only for JDM STi bugeye scoop to OEM WRX TMIC. And the intercooler that I am trying to work with is going to be to be about Ebay TMIC-sized. Am I right in thinking that the USDM STi splitter will not work and that my best option is the v7 STi splitter from Rallispec? It sounds like this Rallispec splitter is made for a larger TMIC than the USDM STi TMIC...might work well with mine?

JDM splitter will work better than USDM WRX splitter, but it probably won't completely cover ebay TMIC since ebay TMIC > STi TMIC.

USDM STi splitter will not fit and won't work on bugeye WRX. I've tried it.
