Whenever mine gets stuck, I just punch it a few times until it goes back into place.

Then, after I have managed to get it thoroughly stuck, I unscrew it and clean it out with rubbing alchohol.

Um my cup holder is 'broken'... atleast I *think* it is... those silly plastic restrainst are sort of flopping about and it doesnt really want to open or close.. cups no longer feel secure, either...

Has anyone found an available aftermarket 'fix' for these things ?
Do newer Subaru models use the same cupholder fittings ?

I bet someone who designs & markets a fix for the standard cupholders could make hundreds, if not thousands of dollars.

LOL mine works but it does need a few good hits to get it out or I'll hit it and it won't come out so I give up and it will pop out 2 sec later The big problem I have with mine is it doesn't hold large bottom cups So I have to hold it or prop it up with something in the passenger side. I found the front flap I have on my backpack fits a large size cup from BK with out tipping

You could try getting a new one from a junkyard or E-bay the cup holder part shouldn't be loose at all. plus the large drinks with the small bottoms don't fit at all in the holder and will flop forward or back depending if your stoping or going which casues spills.

EDIT:

If worse comes to worse, you can buy some neat cupholders that slip into your AC vents. Probably be less secure than the stock cupholders, but they're better than nothing.

I swapped the cupholder from my 98 L into my moms 99 Outback... which we just happened to be trading in the next day The outback one has a larger cup holder and comes out at an angle so it doesnt cover the stereo as much.

If your cup holders are sticking then just clean them up, because chances are somethign got spilled on them. Maybe the springs could be loose too

I had to beat the living daylights out of the cup holder on my old WRX for it to come out.

1. Remove cupholder.
2. Clean it.
3. Replace cupholder.
4. Slow down till chosen beverage is half gone to prevent spills.

i hate that. This is the first vehicle (out of 3) that I've owned that has had cup holders, and sure I'm moving up in the world, but jeez, right above the stereo.....man!
