Post MY00 Legacy GT Limited

Well I just stopped by my local dealer here in Staten Island, NY and wanted to look at a MY2K 2.5RS sedan, but alas they didn't have any at all. They couldn't even give me prices on the options.

But the great salesman suggested that I look at the Legacy GT Limited. 1 word for this car... Class ... This has to be the classiest subaru I've seen. The trunk is great now that they removed the rear strut towers. The rims are really nice, and the inside feels like a BMW. Hopefully they will come out with the six cylinder or a turbo version for MY01. Anyone else get to drive the MY00 Legacy GT?

It looks like Subaru is directly targeting the Audi A4, Volvo C70, BMW 3 series cars. I am going to a discussion group put on by Subaru through a company called Market Trends tonight to discuss these 4 cars. It should be interesting. I have only sat in the new outback. It seemed a big step up from my 99. Only problem with the subaru I see is the same engine through all trim levels. At only 165hp.. Hmm we'll have to wait for the 6.

Thumbs up

I drove the MY00 GT last weekend. Not the Limited, but, damn, very nice car overall. I am working *very* hard to get one ASAP. As you can tell by my sig (and if you didn't read my story on the main list), my Accord is not very happy right now.

As far as the Audi/Volvo/BMW factor: I did my research, and the Europeans are just so expensive. I can fit the GT into my budget pretty easily, but the A4Q is another $7k more, and the others are up from there. I was thinking about the RS, but after crusing around in Basshead's ride, I decided I need the extra room... I don't know how the lanky 6'4" fool drives it... -grin-

Comment about the Limited: as far as the "performance" of the GT goes, the Leather is another 50lbs on top of an already heavy car. If you want a plush commute car, get the limited, if you want something that you can get a few tenths of a second faster on the AutoX, pass.

Yeah since the legacy will be my main/only car, I'm going to go for the Limited mostly for the leather and the LSD and the factory tinted windows. Glad to hear the GT rides well, seeing as I haven't driven it yet. What color are you thinking of getting. Yeah the room factor was the deciding thing for me, also the 2K lb Towing capacity so I can tow my boats around. I'm thinking of adding turbo to it, I'm assuming you can add just about anything that would go on a RS to the GT since they have the same engine.

I have the Timberline Green Pearl wagon picked out (with the spoiler).

All of the MY00 GTs have the LSD (I just checked again to make sure).

A quick look at the engine looks just like Mike's 2.5 RS *except* they changed the air intake... it is a "ram air" design (sucks air from above and in front of the radiator) and it looks like the took out the second airbox.

I drove a MY00 GT and the first thing I noticed was how much quieter it was inside then the 99s. Not much road noise at all. I think the whole car was improved a little bit everywhere but the price really didn't go up at all. BTW Randy, the new green is fantastic looking. I'm sure the turbo kit would go right on but you would need a hood from a Legacy RS or GT-B from Japan so it has the hood scoop( unless you went with a FMIC). The air intake set-up is pretty wild but on the one I saw, 90 percent of it was blocked off( but easily unblocked)! I'm sure they will sell very well.

Green or Black will be my choice. The green is growing on me more and more, but black is my favorite overall color. What do you think about the $250 spoilers? I'm kinda up in the air about that, I could go either way I'll probably leave it off and put the $ toward the PIAA 80 Pro lights.

Most of the option lists that I have seen state that the spoiler is *optional* but at no cost... -checking again- Ahh... can't find it right now (must work, too much time playing around in Photoshop -smile-)...

UPDATE:
It seems I was smoking the "good" crack. I thought there was a "Dust Deflector" AND a "Rear Spoiler" for the wagons, but I can't find the spoiler now, and the deflector is $64 (invoice). If it is what I have seen on a black MY99 GT wagon near my house it makes the back end look pretty bad-ass. Makes it look like more than a "grocery getter"...

UPDATE PART II:
Insurance company called, left a voice mail, there is "estimated $8000 in damage to my Accord" and they are "pretty sure that they are going to total it"... -crossing fingers-

Are there MY2000 Legacy GT wagons? 4 years ago I wanted a Legacy Wagon just like my cousins (well impossible for me, to get one just like it, since his is a Japanese Legacy GT-B, with more than 280hp, with his aftermarket stuff, he had a 96 back then and now drives a 98). I don't really like the silverish part on the bottom of the Legacy, and since seeing the new Legacy, I want to consider it for my next car, but instead of a sedan I would prefer a wagon with the hood scoops and the nice rims and other stuff that the GT gets and the Ls don't.

MY00 has a GT Wagon. No leather available on it though. No more hood scoops either. Although they have nice rims and ground effects. If you add an SC should be a pretty kick ass car.

I've got a MY00 GT Limited. It is a sweet car. I love it, but I'm coming from an Integra Type R, have recently gotten REALLY into autocrossing and it's not a performance car.

Now, if I could get a B4 on the other hand... But alas, no B4 in the US. It would be a sweet luxury performance car with 340+ HP.

Ok legacyGT00, as you're from Baltimore, it's time to post. When I read this, I couldn't believe paisan was talking about the GT again, given that he recently bought a new Trooper. And green, which he now dislikes. Hehe, thanks for bringing it back to the top; I missed it the first time around.
