Default is the valve cover gasket for jdm ver. 7 sti same as usdm sti?

hey guys,

i figured out that i have a rip in my passenger side valve cover gasket (the one that goes around the valve cover, not the little ones in the middle) on my jdm v7 sti motor that is causing oil to leak out from the motor and ignite upon hitting the exhaust manifold. needless to say, i need to fix this with a new valve cover gasket.

i'm hoping and praying that this gasket is the same as the usdm sti? and if it isn't does anyone know where i can get just that one gasket? i know ia performance sells the whole set for both heads, but i only need that one gasket and they want something like $85 or so for the set, and i doubt they would just give me one. is this something that could be ordered through the dealer (part #?)?

any help is appreciated! i need to get this fixed quick!

NO THEY ARE NOT.

I had to order mine from Rallispec. $10 per gasket. And "apparently" you need the spark plug gaskets too ($5 each). I wasn't sold on that part but I got them anyway. Called them up, ordered.. right to my work door in about 1.5 weeks.

thanks infamousdx... didn't see that anyone had replied to this thread till now . i fixed mine with rtv and it's been holding up just fine for about 5 months now. does rallispec have most of the gaskets we need for the v7/8 would you say? i remembered i had tried gruppe-s, gr8wheels, kingpin, and all the other main jdm importers in the country with no luck. do they order them from japan? that's not a bad turn-around time at all. i might stock up.

Rallispec orders from some dealer in japan, I believe, as mine aer genuine Subaru parts (downt o part numbers and boxes and pink labels)... and yes, it's great turnaround time.

i have head gasket problems with the same motor, and am interested in your progress/procedure with this project! because i will be having to replace my gaskets in the very near future and am not entirely aware of which ones to get and/or where to get them.
