Default New to stage.. 2 What I'm hearing is detonations??

I like a lot STG.2 HELIX DP/UP COBB AP... The car feels great no CEL no complaints. Once in a while i hear like a not loud pop! pop! sound from the exhaust when I release the gas under no boost (cruising in the neighbor-hood for example). Is this detonation? Is not loud if you have the radio on you would not hear the "sound".

BTW $1500.00 for the whole combo with instalation is worth the $$$!!

Sounds to me like your describing a backfire, which is common.

No. It just means you running a little rich. No biggie. If your worried about it, just get a custom tune on a dyno.

If you hear the sound in the exhaust and it is loud and very distinct it is not detonation, probably just the normal sound that a free exhaust makes.

Yep, it sounds like what you are hearing is unburned fuel ingining in the exhaust, NOT detenation or preignition. As long as it is a "quiet" pop pop, it is nothing to worry about. If it were a loud POP BANG, then I would probably look at tuning it out.

Fastor1: Yeah, gotta love those uncatted rotories when you let off the gass when you are on full boost. "Who needs pistons? I got JET power!"

Welcome to the Boxer rumble.Thats your exhaust popping. . .Now you can see & tell how restrictive your stock exhaust is. . with cats and a resonator and hugh muffler, it was being choked.
Ping would be under load. . popping, backfires is from your now free flowing exhaust.
Cobb has the maps running rich rich rich. . .

Are you running a blow off valve vented to the atmosphere? If so it will cause the car to be more prone to backfire beacuse when you lift off the throttle the car will run pig rich for a second.
I never had any backfire with the stock bov but when I went catless with a vented bov every now and then my friends would tell me the car would spit a little fire

Stop mixing up backfire and afterfire. Ones a burp, the other is a fart.

Some afterfire is fine, major afterfire is hard on exhaust components, intentional afterfire is rice.

Backfire on the other hard is very bad on any engine and will quickly kill a turbo. Backfires are quite rare and are caused by hot carbon igniting the fuel/air during the intake stoke before the valve closes. This causes ignition and massive pressure spike in the intake. BOV doesn't open under these circumstances and you quickly shred the compressor in your turbo.

It's afterfire, but since you are catted, all you get is popping and no flames ^^lol @ correct fart comment.
