Gruppe-S is proud to announce that it now offers complete built motor packages to the general public. A service only available to local customers previously, we have combined the best and most cost effective components available to form staged motor packages that should suit nearly every Suby junkie’s needs. These short and long blocks will support anywhere from 535 CHP to 700 CHP and all provide increased strength, power, and reliability. They are sold as packages so that you, the user, doesn’t have to worry about any options, specifics, or details.

Stage 1:

Not so crazy that it can’t be driven on the street but strong enough to handle almost anything that can be throw at it, the Gruppe-S 2.5 Stage One Motors are designed to reduce the compromise between high horsepower and reliability. Available as either a short block or long block that utilizes either your USDM STi’s AVCS heads or WRX EJ20 heads off of your own motor (includes custom gaskets for proper compression ratios), this motor is essentially a beefed up version of the USDM STi motor. Derived from our extensive experience building and tuning both race and street cars, our Stage 1 eliminates the failure points of the stock STI engine. We have replaced the stock hyper-cast pistons with our custom forged units by Wiseco. Wiseco Pistons were selected due to their versatility for both street and race applications; they eliminate the compromise of a "loose" race piston by retaining a better operating range. The factory bearings have also been replaced with coated race units that eliminate the spun / seized bearing issue we often see in high power applications. The longblock utilizes Cometic gaskets and ARP Head Studs to affix the heads to the block. Finally, the entire assembly is professionally balanced and assembled to race specifications (within 1 gram). When coupled with the lighter forged pistons, the is a redline that has been raised to 7500RPM. We recommend this short-block for all Subaru owners making in excess of 460HP. Can the stock motor hold more power? Yes, but based on our experience building and tuning literally hundreds of Subarus, the reliability of the engine becomes questionable at those power levels.

Assembly time is generally 3-4 weeks. For the Long block option, we require a core charge for the heads which will be refunded if you heads are in good working order.

Stage 2:

The Gruppe-S Stage Two Race Engine is a logical progression from Stage One: it combines our Stage One short block with a treated / reworked crankshaft for high RPM operation. The combination of forged pistons, coated race bearings, proper balancing, and re-worked crankshaft yields a potent short-block capable of supporting a staggering 600HP while also revving to 8000RPM. On the longblock option, Gruppe-S Stage Two camshafts (AVCS on STI), an upgraded valvetrain, and titanium retainers are added for extra breathing ability.

Assembly time is generally 3-4 weeks. For the Long block option, we require a core charge for the heads which will be refunded if you heads are in good working order.

Our manifold features T304 Stainless Steel piping, mandrel bends, and CNC precision cut flanges. The 4-1 collector is cast to ensure the smoothest possible low rates. An affordable Oil Cooler done the right way!

While track-side tuning Brian Locke’s WRX US Touring Car, the WRX’s ability to sufficiently cool its oil when operating in extreme conditions became glaringly apparent. Even in cool weather with moderate cycling, the factory system seems stressed, resulting in dangerously high oil temperatures (this is probably why the Spec C’s come with an oil cooler from the factory). After testing various solutions, we finally selected a setup that is more than capable of dealing with the stress of road racing.

With the Gruppe-S Oil Cooler, the racing oil temperature was reduced a consistent 40 degrees F, even in 110 degree + temperatures of Arizona, as proven with our data logs. In short, this oil-cooler works and it has been track tested on a race winning vehicle.

I am going all out on my '05 STi. I am waiting for an Ultimate Racing GT40R turbo package to arrive and need to vastly improve my internals and heads. I also will have a ZEX direct port nitrous system in place. Will your best Stage 2 long block be able to handle all of this power? Otherwise, I am considering an Axis Stage 5 short block with custom DPR heads.

Hello,

I would actually recommend our Stage 2+ (which includes better rods) or our Stage 3 (adds sleeved block, includes DPR heads for STi, PnP, oversized valves, etc.). The stage 3 should be out in about 6-8 weeks and is rated for 700+ CHP. We're currently in the process of testing a GT40R on our Stage 2+(+) so we'll post results when that's done.

No, it's a USTCC car so it's stock turboed. Maybe Grand Am or Speed Challenge will let GT turboed cars in soon though.

Yeah, there are a few of them. Mark G STi is probably the best known one. He's run to 8000 RPM but he has the 2+ with upgraded rods.

Will the Helix 820cc injectors feed enough fuel to my WRX with Perrin's GT35R kit and your Stage 1 shortblock.

Hey Shane,

It depends on what type of gas you're using and how much power you're making but for the most part, they should be OK. I'd say that if you're making over 550+ CHP regularly, then you should start looking at something bigger. Do you already have our shortblock? If you don't yet, I'd look at running a stage 2 or 2+ (rather than the Stage 1) with the GT35R.
