Question Check engine light blinking!?!

I have an OBD2 reader and it is giving me a EGT upper bank sensor error.

When I am driving, the check engine light blinks when I am accelerating under most conditions. ie light load, rolling on smooth, hard loads(2/3 throttle).

I am thinking I have had total Sensor failure... would this thought be warranted?

Planning on replacing the sensor soon, I just wanted to hear from you all and see what you think.

Jake

flashing CEL = misfire in progress... That is if the ecu is running the show. If you have a utec on there, it means detonation is in progress..

do you have any mods?

How can we help if we don't know what you have done to your car? All of this is just stabs in the dark until there is a mod list posted. Have changed your components lately or checked for vacuum leaks?

It looks like you are quite a n00b to the Subaru's. You have misfiring in progress. Replace that sensor and you should be fine.

If you get a chance you should do a compression test... My car started throwing Misfire CELs and the occasional flashing CEL and cylinder #1 & #3 tested very low.

Useful Thread: http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=956842

Good luck!

Exclamation List of engine mods

Here are the mods as of late... Sorry for not posting this earlier in the Thread.

IHI VF34
turboXS Tmic
" " Turbo back exaust w/ Magna flow muffler
" " Piggy back w/dyno tune
WB O2sensor
K&N airfilter.

thats all for the motor right now. I have come to the conclusion that I should replace my EGT sens. Is this an easy one to do? Also where is it I have been under the car and can't locate it. I should and will by a shop manual.
I do like having all of your experience and opinions to help me base my decisions on so, keep them coming thanks again.

EGT is in the upper half of the uppipe. You should be able to see it just under the turbo on the passenger side.

you could replace it, but it will just crap out on you again. Do the resistor mod, replace the probe with a bolt or just clip the end off the probe and use it as a plug and be done with it.

Does your car lose a lot of power when the CEL is flashing? It could also be a loose coilpack... It happened to me, so I'm just throwing out my two cents.

Question

Supermarcus what type of resistor do I use? Well the light has stopped blinking but I am having a huge loss in power and the engine seems to be pulsing now. Its definatly making me uneasy.

Does it pulse more under boost? It definitely sounds like a misfire. I had the same problem once. Check your coil packs they can come loose.

When your car pulses as you say. Does it allow you to go past rpm where it's pulsing at. Or do you have to let off and then give it gas again to get past it.

most likely, your knock sensor is hearing an audible noise which it is translating as knock.

But does it come on stronger during boost? I ask because when I had a loose coil pack the car would drive (struggled but drove) but as soon as it went under boost it bucked and pulsed like crazy.
