Question 2002 2.5RS reviews?

Does anyone know where I can find a professional review of the Impreza 2.5RS?

Bought a Silver 2002 2.5RS a few weeks ago. I'm 24 and it's my first Subie and the second car I've owned, the first being a Honda Civic but this car is so much more. Is it a sin to love a car so much? It's a blessing to have a forum like this where Impreza owners love their car as much as I do. I haven't found any reviews on the 2002 RS but I will tell you that I'm one satisfied customer. I know it's not the WRX but it's got enough power for my liking. And the price was perfect for my budget.

IMO, it seems that the arrival of the WRX has eclipsed the fact that the 2.5rs is indeed still being produced. But all I ever hear is "WRX..WRX...and hey it's that new WRX I've seen on TV".....Blah blah.

I haven't seen or heard any performance reviews on the 2.5 either. Maybe they'll have to discontinue the 2.5rs for the WRX...just like they got ride of the coupe.

Skylab, that is exactly my sentiment. The big S has done so little advertising of the 2.5rs, that hardly anybody knows about it. But I have a stack of magazines with articles on the WRX. And most everybody has seen those slick-as-snot commercials for the Rex. The poor 2.5; the lime-light is finally pointed its way to be averted at the last moment to its "twin" (as in the movie "Twins"!).

Come on "R&T", "C&D", "Auto.", somebody please give us a good road test of the new 2.5RS! After all, it is the trim that competes with the other cars in its bracket.

I drove one for a coupla hours,,,Black,,sweet.Very nice ,The suspension is the same as the wrx i think.Nice ride ,stable, felt a bit larger then my coupe.Priced right too.The dealers arent gonna mark thse too high either considering now its the in btween the T or L and the rex.Coulda had this one with armrest extension for $18,000 plus tax and tags.

I'm a little disappointed in this years (2002) model RS. First off, I miss the hood scoop already (even if it does nothing). Second, it's a nice looking car, but it's dumbed down a little since 2001 model (which I have). I spoke to the guy who sold me my RS last year and he tells me that the suspension is not as good as last years model. Also, it doesn't include fog lights standard, not to mention the spoiler. I guess if you add all of the features included last year, you will end up spending approx the same.

Now... I also drove the WRX the same day I saw the new RS. Granted I only took about 2 miles, but the turbo does make a huge difference in acceleration. Also the cornering is a big tighter and the body lean is almost non-existent. (The sales guy made me do a corner hard...)

Again, after saying all this... I'm VERY happy with my '01 RS. I think it's the coolest car. It LOOKS fast, it IS fast, and with a $3000 turbo upgrade, it can be FASTER than the WRX. Plus, it looks tougher than the "neon" front.

My $.02

does the new RS have anymore power then the '01 RS.. it doesn't really seem like a fair trade for the extra couple hundred pounds.. but then again it does have the wider body and the funky headlights.

The Outback Sport really got lots of extras (larger wheels, alloys instead of wheel covers, bigger 2.5 engine, fog lights, nicer interior, nicer roof rack, rear cargo light, etc., etc.), but they don't even advertise this model--go figure!

I posted pictures of my 2002 OBS and several people said the wheels are nicer looking than the stock WRX wheels. They are VERY nice!!

No problems, at approximately 2700km, added OEM fog lamps and spoiler (cost an arm and a leg), Not too hard to clean...

I got them for $945 Canadian for both (lamps and spoiler) plus labor... The fogs are huge! I think they're about 5 inch across. Just got my WRX stock sway bar (20mm) to replace the stock 17mm, haven't installed yet, I'll tell you about it once I have it on...

Man, how come when anyone mentions the 2002 RS someone has to come in and insult it? Go away trolls!

Anyway... The RS doesnt have the rear LSD and it has the smaller rear sway bar, but thats it in suspension differences from the WRX.

But I can get a RS for near invoice already, making the price gap between the RS and WRX HUGE considering you cant get the rex near invoice with much ease... Plus, some people are looking for sub-$20k cars, not over-$20k cars...

And the RS is now the base model Sedan in the Subaru Lineup, and not a bad one to say the least. Im sure more stuff will be coming out about the RS, TS, and OBS soon enough

I just got my white RS 4 days ago.

I LOVE IT! It's my first car and I think it's a great car for a new driver. Its manual tranny is really easy to handle, you can find friction point really easily.

I think it's a really good car, I mean you get for what you pay, with 30k(CDN), I think it's the best in it's class, but I might be a little bias.

Go to the Puerto Rico Forum and you'll see my son's RS with a nice look. Excellent car. Next week he will test it at a Solo. He had a couple of the old version, he likes this more. Excellent alternative to the WRX, when you can afford the WRX now.
