Default water cooled turbo w/no water

here is a question - hiow long will a td05-h last if you dont connect the wqater pipe instead you bypass the turbo with a hose from water pump to the return on the rear of the head.
Just seeing what opinions you guys have.

I wouldn't, what's the point?
Plus doesn't the car cycle coolant throught the turbo when it is off hence the reason we don't have/need a turbo timer?

yeah thats what i thought as well. Until recently i was edumacated to another way of looking at it and i saw conclusive proof that a 330 hp STI had run several thousand miles with no water cooling on the TD05-H. End result was a much cooler running engine, and less thermal stress all round.

yeah well im sure the engine was ok, but what about the turbo??? Im sure it wouldnt last as long. also, you are still heating the oil that runs through, and that will be hotter since it will be the only thing cooling the turbo. If im wrong, correct me, cause this is just an educated guess.

Yep, I can see both of your points. True the car was maybe cooler without the coolant lines but that oil is probably getting way more stressed in the hotter turbo........I would say its probably better to run the coolant lines. Again, just my edumacated guess also.
Would be interesting to see the oil temp coming out of the turbo with and without the coolant lines, the overall temp of engine with and without and the temp of the turbo itself with and without the lines.

if you cool it down properly to prevent cooking the bearings it will last as long as it would have with water cooling.
