I'm thinking about eventually going to an aftermarket clutch set up once my stock unit dies on me. I don't have heavy mods so I'm not interested in beefy kits like ACT or Clutchmasters Stage III. Also, I'm interested in keeping the clutch pedal pressure relatively light.
Has anyone compared the Clutchmasters Stage 1 to the Exedy Clutch Kit? I've done searches and they seem to come up as two likely candidates, but I haven't seen much comparison between the two. Which one would feel closer to stock? Which one would last longer? Any other suggestions for stock clutch replacements? Thanks for your help. Ken

I could be wrong, but I believe the pressure plate is the same on the Clutchmasters Stage 1 and 3. The only difference is the Kevlar disk on the Stage 3.
I can tell you that, even with a supposedly stronger pressure plate, the Clutchmasters Stage 3 is barely heavier than stock in terms of pedal pressure. I suspect they move the fulcrum point slightly to keep pedal effort down. |

Thanks for the reply. Actually, that also brings up another point -- I don't want to pay for something I don't need.
I've read in some posts that the CM Stage III pedal feel is not too heavy, but isn't a kevlar disk overkill for a barely modified NA engine? Ken |

...bump!
Anyone else? How about the Exedy clutch kit? Anyone have that? Does almost everyone go to a heavier pressure plate? Any other clutches that feel close to stock? --Ken |

I currently have and exedy clutch in my MY99 right now but I have nothing to compare it to except my previous vehicle which was a jeep wrangler and the 18-wheelers that I drive at work. Bugbomb who is right up the street from me let me drive his car after he installed his ACT clutch but it was not even broken in yet so that is not much help there. Try PM’ing bugbomb or konkiler both have driven 2.5 RS’s with various clutch set-ups so they maybe able to give you some feedback. I have a clutchmaster stage 3 just waiting to be but in myself just need to find the time to do it.
