Default EGT gauge with cobb stage 1 & 2?

Hey all -

So I've had my WRX for 4 years and I'm finally gonna start modding. Getting a UP in the next couple of weeks; will follow sometime soon with an accessport and go cobb stage 1. Sometime in the next several months I'll do a DP and go stage 2.

How important is it for me to have an EGT gauge for the cobb stage 1 and 2 stock maps? I'll definitely get one eventually so I can go custom tune, and maybe bigger better mods, but should I have one before the AP or before the DP?

i'm not sure how necessary an EGT will be for stage I or II...but i don't think it's that important?
but you should get a boost gauge to keeps tabs on how you're boosting.
OTS maps aren't custom designed for your exact mods...and every car is different anyway. So you may not be hitting target boost, or have boost fluttering, or boost spikes.

It may depend on the downpipe you choose also. I initially tried a stage 2 map with a Bosal "shorty" downpipe. I saw some fairly high EGTs, so I was careful. Later, I switched to a Cobb downpipe, and the EGTs are much better. If Cobb develops the map on a car with a Cobb downpipe, an EGT gauge may be less critical. If you're using a different downpipe, EGTs could vary more.

hrm, well I was thinking of going with a shorty downpipe and the factory 3rd cat, but maybe I'll rethink that and go for a full length downpipe with a high flow cat like the helix or cobb. Already have a boost gauge, so I'm set there. Thanks for the input guys.
