Subaru Stars Pickn up the new addition to the family.

ok so i get the call from the dealership today, that the car will be ready for pick up tomorrow. its only been a month since i ordered it, actually to the day. so im anxious to pick her up. for those that dont know, im the new guy to the boards from torrance, my name is Joseph. up until mid of december my truck was in an accident Dakotasv74 car domain so i decided to get a beater car (daily driver), which happend to be an 06 wrx with limited package. i've been wanting a wrx for over the past 4 years now, and have since been saving on the side as well as modding the truck. Im hopeing to aqainted with the wrx, but it is my first sedan. I bought a silver 06 with black leather, limited package, and the manual. this is the first manual i've owned and i know ill enjoy it, just have to get used to it. first thing i plan to do is the DRL fix. I guess you could say i feel like a kid in a candy shop right now, but im sure you all felt that the day you got yours. ill post some pics if its not raining. peace out guys.
Joseph

so you got a 06 limited edition wrx as a BEATER? why are you anxious to get your beloved BEATER? you know how many people are saving up money to get their wrx's?? you're pretty pompous to say that... hmm, maybe you should've bought an evo as a beater, your attitude is a good fit for most owners of evos...

man, relax a bit, when i refer to it as a beater, im refering to it as a daily driver, which im proud to say that i've worked hard for. its not supposed to come off as attitude. its moreless a joke really. i know not everyone can afford, hell necissarily can i really justify the amount of new cars today, my intention was not to be "pompus" as you so claim. And if you looked at the link you realized that i've invested way to much into my truck which has been a very long build to get it where it was untill this accident. so thus again, another reason for me sarcasticlly saying that the new car is a beater, kinda like its a joke.. get it if not....sorry for your misunderstanding

I went from an 01 4.7 CC dakota to an 03 wrx and never looked back. Welcome to the SCIC, I hope you're ready to change your driving techniques because of the AWD.

first mod list: a track day at streets of willow or an AutoX event. learn to drive the wrx with the stock Potenza's and suspension

second mod list: find a sway bar (front and rear) setup that works for you and install along with a solid set of endlinks (Poltecs, etc)

third mod list: another track day, get used to the sway bar, dial it in.

fourth mod list: springs or coilover setup (whichever suits your needs) most people switch to coilovers eventually so its probably best to buy a set of Megan Racing initially ($850-$900 new)

fith mod list : another track day, beat on those potenzas and enjoy the springs/coilovers, dial in!!

sixth mod list: replace those bald Potenza's and if you have the cash, the wheels too.

seventh mod list: track day!!!!!

eighth mod list: sell your dakota cause you're so in love with the wrx and dont need another car, your setup now has everything you need minus a little power...thats where selling the dakota comes in to play

ninth mod lis: Perrin GT30r turbo kit, PE 850 CC injectors, Walbro 255 FP, FMIC, Stromung dual tip catback exhaust (3"), Cobb accessport, Harman Motive AP protune.

tenth mod list: track day! out drive most Evo's/STi's

after those ten steps, time to check into a ten step rehab program for modaholics.

i guess I'd agree with those mods except for all the track days
unless you are planning on driving it within 9/10ths then you could probably do with less track time.

you can never have enough track time! the idea is to push the limit of the car and find out what the driver would like to improve, instead of buying parts for the sake of buying parts.

in track days YOU decide how much you wanna push the car... in autox, you can and safely drive to 10/10ths because nothing will happen other than a couple of cones getting killed... trackdays are a lot of fun as well... i like dohccammin's steps, pretty good IMHO...

I like to have better handling and I enjoy the few mods I have but I don't feel any need to push them to the limit on a track.

I would say your advice only applies to someone who wants to do track days regularly and build up their racing skills. You can't drive like that on the street anyway with the exception of some emergency where you need to dodge a minefield on the freeway all of a sudden and you gots to know your exact limit of understeer.

Anyways track days eat your tires and really stress your car.

thank you mr. obvious...the point of track days are to have fun and learn the limits of your car, not break things. as for tires, usually people who go can afford to replace their tires or have an extra set of track wheels/tires.

yer welcome

sounds very expensive

I didnt know that about the wheels and stuff. I never would have thought of track tires. I have seen a track in a video game once but thats it so there is a lot I don't know about trackdays.
Too bad using track tires doesn't really prepare you for the handling characteristics of your street tires.
