Default Bugeye HID retrofit UPDATE3

Hi guys. After a long time of consideration, I finally am retrofitting my 02 wrx to bi-xenon 2004 M3 HID.

Here is what they should look like.
low beam

Here is what they should look like.
high beam

Just for your info, i bought the projectors, lights and ballasts for 320 shipped.

UPDATE4 - They work!!! It took 2 hours to align them but everything seems to work now. Here are the pics fresh from the dark room... More pics tommorow.

UPDATE3 - The left light is FUNCTIONAL!!! Light, ballast everything works. Here are some pictures.

UPDATE2 - I decided to pay someone to make the brackets. I just saw them today, and it all looks very good. I'll be able to adjust the beam with washers so the factory adjustment will NOT work

They are also painting everything in the background flat black so that it all looks good, and polishing the front glass... Stay tuned, pictures tommorow.

UPDATE1 - initial mockup for driver side light. I totally trashed the stock reflector, so the backdrop behind the projector is flat black (fits well with my black car)

Whoa crappers that looks tight as heck! I'm usually all for the real deal, but at that cost I could definitely see myself doing this ... are you gonna' post instructions? Any summary would be greatly appreciated!

Just finished up figuring out how im going to make the mounts. There are actually two adjusters inside the bugeye lights, so I'm going to try to make this as hard as possible (for myself) and try to retrofit it in such a way that i can adjust vertical and horizontal.

Stay tuned!

Ya, and I'm wondering about the shrouds. Did they come with the M3 projectors? I've got Murano Bi-Xenons waiting to go in but I haven't figured out what to use for shrouds yet.

Default holy sh...

I just took it for a ride...

After a bit of adjusting, I think i got it to a good height. Remmember I have only ONE light, the drivers side, yet it is BRIGHTER then my stocks together...

The cutoff is insane, the illumination is perfect, and the high beams are RIDICULUS!!! I would reccommend everyone spend the extra bucks and get bi-xenon, its the best driving light ever.

Stay tuned....

when you're all done we'd appreciate a break down of costs, sources and any other input you may have for others to replicate this. It's looking great.

Sure. Here are the costs for now..

320 shipped for lights, ballasts.

300 labor for fabrication of internal mounts, painting the inside flat black etc, care of BSM in lowell, ma

Wiring was free care of my father

I mounted the ballasts myself (more pictures to come), no costs incurred there.

Again, i JUST finished so much more to come. Stay tuned...

wow. that's a "wide-eyed" aka heroin crack addict look on the headlights. wait. on second look, they look like boobies.

but HID is so cool. I was looking to do the same on my black wrx, but right now i just can't justify the cost. good job.

Default Posting Detailed Instructions

I took it for another ride, and it seems pretty good. The high beams are basically useless, they are like a helicopter spotlight into the sky...

I haven't had anyone high beam me, so if this is fine with the other drivers (haha) i will glue the lights permanently back together with the help of my conventional oven...

Again, a retrofit like this is plain EXPENSIVE. You dont have a car for a while, i paid 300 for fabrication/paint alone, and that doesnt count the 10 hours of labor I put in for the wiring, mounting of the ballasts and alignment...

But now I have joined the HID club and the headlights came out looking pretty unique. It looks like robots eyes in the dark...

Do you guys think I should post the wiring and some of the retrofit instructions on the forum or create a web page for it?

I think if you took out the orange cover and replaced the bulb with some of those stealth silver bulbs that light amber, the headlight would look much better.
