Don't know much about them, but probably built by the same company in Taiwan that builds bikes for a lot of other companies.

I'd recommend going to you local bike shop first. Support the small businesses! And from my experience the smaller shops usually have a more a knowledgeable staff. And the smaller shops will usually let you demo bikes for a "real" ride. The flip side to that is that there are always some really good deals online. Places like Price Point, Jenson, and Nashbar always have "closeouts" on bikes for really good prices. Downside is you can't test ride them first (obviously), but the component set for the money is always a great deal. Don't know what your budget is, but if you can get something with SRAM X9 or Shimano XT (or higher), it's a nice setup. Also check out Ferrazi bikes. They do custom fit bikes based on specs you give them.

Also, check the classifieds. You can always find something only a couple years old that's a lot better than something new at the same price. AJ is a good example. He got a sweet bike for less than half what it cost new. How tall are you? I'm always scanning the classifieds, so I'll keep an eye out.

Problem with buying online is a lot of companies won't allow their bikes to be sold online. Trek being one of them.

Plus IMO test rides are a MUST for bikes

If you have some spare time, you more than welcome to come chat with me at my shop in Reston. It's called "The Bike Lane". You'll find me in the service area. Might even be able to hook you up with some sort of discount, no guarantees though.

Not sure. I'm think I'm going out early Saturday for a more advanced ride. As for the noob ride I'm not sure what's going on but I would be game if enough people wanted to go. Could make for a fun easy ride.

Change of plans. Riding Friday at FH instead of tomorrow.

Also, for those that haven't been there, the pump/jump trail at Meadowood is open and quite a lot of fun.

Where is meadowood? I might be down for FH sat morning, would be the first time this season though and I'd likely get left in the dust...but I need to get out there again.

Meadowood is in Lorton. It's a good ride if you haven't ridden in awhile. I usually park at the Old Colchester entrance, but it's small, so if that's full you can park at the school on Gunston Road.

http://www.vabike.org/new-trail-at-meadowood/

This map is a little old, as it doesn't show the pump track. They're also adding a cool "feature" trail that should be done in a month or so. The MTB trail is purple.

Oh wow. I guess that's not laurel hill, which has some decent loops to ride. I haven't been there, gotta go check it out for sure. Finally got a roof rack for my car so I can take the MTB out again, just been doing road rides lately.

Yeah. I pretty much don't go to Laurel Hill from May to November. Too many ticks. That and you constantly get flats from all the thorns.

If you have been road riding you should be OK for FH.

Fountainhead is the best, most technical, and most challenging in the area, but if you're just getting back into it, probably not the first place you want to go. There are a lot of other options. Wakefield, Meadowood, Difficult Run, Laurell Hill/Lorton, Rosaryville, Schaeffer Farms, and others.
