Default Problems with a Protune

Ran a search, found nothing.

Has anyone gotten problems having their accessports protuned? And is it mostly reliable? I don't want my car running good and then all of a sudden dying out on me in a few months. I'm running stg. 2 right now with the 91 map, and if a protune is 100% safe I'm willing to go for it.

In theory a protune should be safer then the stock map if the tuner knows what he/she is doing. It's a map built spacifically for your car! You could tell them to build you a 1 safe map & 1 aggressive map...

Right. You can't predictably say that a ProTune is always safer or less safe than an "off the shelf" map. It depends on the tune (probably even more than the off the shelf maps do). For example, you could tell your tuner, "I want this thing to make gobs of power, detonate occasionally, and last maybe two months." He could make you a map like that. On the other hand, you could say, "I want a slight power increase with good reliability." He should also be able to make that map for you. Just depends on what you want.

That's what I figured. Thanks for the replies. The tuner i'm working with is one that I completely trust (harman motive)

It shouldn't be an issue then. Funny part is, my car backfires like crazy...is cobb's map really that rich?

Have to admit though...it is pretty cool

nope. stg. 2 ap, turboback exhaust + uppipe.

whenever I shift from 4rt to 3rd and I brake my car slowly (usually going downhill) it starts gurgling and backfiring. I tell ya, it attracts a lot of attention.

Who needs a bov?

Ask a tuner to get you two maps - low and high boost maps. You should run a data logging using ECU explorer and consistently monitor how your car is running. There are too many variables out there like weather, gas quality, etc.
