Default 93 imp 5spd ecu upgrade

I built a 2.5 with 2.2 heads for my 93 1.8 imp, the motor has lots of torque but runs real lean between 2,000 and 4,000 rpm's. anyone know a good way to program this or a good mod to use/ chip. I have some extra ecu's laying around for everything from 1.8 imp's to 2.5 outbacks and foresters. Anyone moded a 93 ECU???

What are you running for fuel? How do you know it is lean? Have you got a wideband on there, or just the stock o2 sensor and a cheapie gauge?

I'm currently not running any O2 sensor. The reason that I knowits running lean is the motor feels sluggish like its starving until 4000rpms with the O2 sensor plugged in, but if I unplug it and the system goes closed loop then it runs pretty good but noticibly jumps at 4000rpms which tells me that the ecu is running lean between 2000 and 4000 rpms. I will probably pick up a wideband to see what its doing exactly but that is just diagnostic. I'm thinking of plugging up a 2.2 impreza ecu to see if that helps. For fuel iam running 93 octane due to the high compression from the 2.2 heads. This motor pulls hard but noticibly more at 4000 which tells me it can do more down low.

ee gad thats not a good way to find out your lean ..

could be but not likely running rich too

an emanage (better as the 1.8 ecu is know for some very high advance numebrs) or a safc would work if you had a wideband (wideband tunning is absoulty nessicary)

it amazes me that people think that running a stock ecu w/ major changes is a viable option

Hey matt would the ecu sold me help this guy out? also what he said about his 02 sensor didnt make a whole lot of sense to me.

Wouldnt the ecu go into "safe mode" not the closed loop with the 02 sensor removed? Doesnt it basically dump fuel in this mode?

If you go aftermarket, I would say the emanage. THat is running my friends turboed 2.5 with stock 1.8 ecu quite abit better than my perfect power/1.8ecu ran 2.2t

you gotta remember that the 1.8 ecu especially the older ecus are not nearly as smart i believe the only "limp" mode for the older ecus is caused by a failed maf

theorizing .. w/o a o2 sensor it would never trim the fuel to stoic. thus staying 12.5 to 1?? ... which would proved good power and terrible gas mileage, on a 1.8- on a 2.5 it will probably be stupid lean

the o2 sensor is probably adding fuel at idle and cruise to find stoic. once you hit the throttle is has no affect ...

Really swapstar? maybe that is why my car hates teh perfect power. But I have the 95 ecu.

Also the emanage seems fine with my friends 93 ecu? Its the ultimate, does that make a difference?
