Default < 13.000 registry for TD04 turbos ( quick list II )

I've decided to freeze updates to my old post on quick times for the stock TD04 turbo on :

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...=527449&page=2

As of today 3/14/06, I'm starting this thread for TD04 turbos with sub-13.000 second times, so it is easier to find with common search terms like "registry" etc.

List of fastest known stock turbo new Gen USDM 2 liter WRX

Rules are simple -- You must be running a USDM WRX, with the stock TD04-13T turbo on a stock internals 2.0 L engine.
You must validate your claim with a time slip, date and location of run.

Listing is ranked by ET with earliest date for identical runs ranked first.

P&P is allowed with the stock compressor wheel, but will be noted with an * entry.

Use of Nitrous must be declared. Anything else goes.
IE. WI Alcohol, high octane fuels, weight reduction etc. are all acceptable.
Please post weather conditions with your listing, and relevant mods so others know what works on the stock engine/turbo setup.

For those who can only run 1/8 mile times, conversions will be made using a conversion factor of 0.63505 or 1.57468 to convert from 1/8 <--> 1/4 mile ET's.

IE a 12.999 1/4 mile ET is equivalent to an 8.2550 ET on the 1/8 mile
.. a 13.999 1/4 mile ET is equivalent to an 8.8901 ET on the 1/8 mile

[edit 4/22/06] Timing slips that show obvious timing errors will not be accepted. They will be listed as a near miss,(probable run), if the driver can document other near 13.000 times at my discretion.

Stock turbo only at high altitudes > 3500 ft
For high altitude runs times can be converted to approx sealevel numbers using the 1/2 correction factor for altitude found on the NHRA tech page at:
http://www.nhra.com/tech_specs/altitude.html

For Denver Colorado (Bandimere 5800' altitude) sea level numbers ET = 0.9702 MPH = 1.0281
For Albuquerque, NM (5400' altitude) sea level numbers ET = 0.9725 MPH = 1.0260

Off the top of my head I believe generally they all had, up pipe, down pipe, after market exhaust, some sort of boost control, many have some sort or after market intake, and some sort of tuning. Most were running a high octane fuel. About 1/2 the runs were made in cool or cold weather. Several of us lightened the car by removing some items. A few had upgraded intercoolers, some of us were on the stock tmic.

I don't have an accurate summary handy, but if I get the time one of these days I'll try to put one together.

If you want the details you can look them up by searching on the "user name" and the drag strip time "12.9xx@98.xxx" etc. Usually the oldest thread will be the one where they announce the run, and give mods list.

Here are some of the mods, will add others as time allows

im hoping for 12.9x's with my setup. Utec dyno tuned by Xotic Motorsports, txs fmic, up pipe, catless 3" helix turboback, txs intake.

this coupled w/ 15lb wheels and a normally 1.70 60ft (can do better)...i hope to make it to the 12's without any kind of spray or injection

So turbo porting is out. What about ceramic coatings or wraps? Weight reduction is fine?

All that is pretty much covered in the first post?

Quote:
Rules are simple -- You must be running a USDM WRX, with the stock TD04-13T turbo on a stock internals 2.0 L engine.
You must validate your claim with a time slip, date and location of run.

Listing is ranked by ET with earliest date for identical runs ranked first.

P&P is allowed with the stock compressor wheel, but will be noted with an * entry.

Use of Nitrous must be declared. Anything else goes.
IE. WI Alcohol, high octane fuels, weight reduction etc. are all acceptable.
In short yes to all the above are acceptable.

Like I said in the other original thread -- this is an "informal" standard, so as long as you post your mods so others can see what was done to get the time, pretty much everything is open and acceptable except major engine modifications and upgraded compressor wheels in the stock turbo.

The whole point of this is that the stock turbo provides a fixed point of reference, much like the restrictors used in the WRC and SCCA. By its very design it puts a pretty bullet proof upper limit to how much air you can get into the engine. With that hard limit, then it is up to the driver and the tuner to make the most with what is possible with that limited air intake volume.

Yeah man, I am really interested to see what you run with a tune. Your time is serious with just that flash. I am finally getting a new (used) td04 and a few other things installed next week, so I can finally get back to the track and see if I can improve on my time.

Yep -- like all the rest of you, mine had been public since the day I made the runs --- you just have to do some searching to find it.

Like today while searching for the mods info on one of the others on the list, I finally found the thread for Gadiels <12 run on the stock turbo and added him to the list as well. Some of these mods lists are assembled out of multiple posts in several threads on more than one web forum.

In my case, my mods and primary discussion of my runs were originally posted over on clubwrx because the folks over here didn't seem to care about or understand how difficult it is to run comparable times at high altitude.

Hotrod, does the motor have to be USDM?

I have a JDM LGT longblock that replaced my 2002 motor after a needing $1700 worth of work on a 90k motor. I'm still running my WRX manifolds, gutted UP, Bosal DP and TD04. I know the motor has either a 9.5:1 or 10:1 CR, so I'm guessing it's a no, but I think I could definitely see times under 12.5 with the right tune.

It would be unfair I think to compare the JDM motor to the stock USDM for the reason you mentioned. Higher compression ratios make the the engine more thermally effecient so it should make more power if you have the octane to take advantage of it.

It would be interesting to have you post up what you could do just for reference though.
