Question Clear corner mod work on Legacy's?

Just curious if the clear corner mod for the Imprezas' corners will work for the Legacy corners, and has anyone done it? Thanks!

I fully expect that it would... It's one of the things I plan on doing someday. Bear in mind, that our corners are our blinkers as well. So, while we can pull out the amber reflectors (I plan to replace them with whites from bicycles), we'll need to leave the amber bulb...

Hmm. I guess not, but a white blinker seems a little bizarre to me. Possibly illegal. Heffilino.

Yes it does work. I did it and it went pretty well. You have to make sure you get the little tiny screw that is on each lens if you don't you will end up cracking the lens. I almost forgot it one one and ended up with a little crack. We will see over time if this is going to cause a problem. I used a pot of boiling water to pull apart the lens then a hair dryer to put it back together again. It was actually pretty easy. It looks pretty good when finished. Especially in the day. At night you can't tell the clear corners with the stock bulbs. I like it that way.

Yeah, I know they are our blinkers also, but because they aren't on all the time, it won't look stupid with an amber bulb in there. Definitely more of a daytime thing.

Where's the little screw at? I'll probably go and check it out today... Is the procedure similar to the Imprezas'??

Thanks guys.

Hey Eric,

you must be the one with the Legacy Limited I saw at the meet. the corner lenses did look really nice. After couple attempts and a huge crack that went down from top to botton, I gave up. All that goop! That stuff is amazingly strong. I wonder if they use those on our planes that we make...

Pot of boiling water... hmmm, interesting. how long did you have to keep it in there? Did it come off REALLY easily? or was there some white knuckles involved.

Do tell.

This is Lisa at Troncalli Subaru.

I just had a sell on the corner lamps for $73.00 a set, including shipping in the U.S.

I will extend the price if anyone is interested.

I have at least 30 sets of the clear corners available.

It was a group buy, but I will not set a certain amount needed to get the GB price.
First come.......

The Leg' at capa.com.au was (probably) an Australian-market car, which comes with clear corners, amber bulbs and white sidelights - as does the current-shape Legacy.

The all-white headlamps, sidelights and indicators looks a little bland on the newer Legacy - although probably no worse than the orange stuck onto US cars.

Lisa-

How long will you honor that price? I think I'll try doing it myself, and if I trash 'em, I'll just buy a pair from you...

Angry

WTF!

So I just went out to my car and attempted to take apart the headlights. Well, first off, the entire front headlight unit is one piece, not like the 1st gen Legacy's that had a separate corner piece. Second, it doesn't look like it is even *remotely* easy to pull the lens and housing apart. Third, most of the entire corner is already clear, and the only thing that is orange is a little teeny corner of it.

I own a '97 Legacy GT Sedan...

How could one only charge $73 or whatever for clear corners when the entire lens would have to be replaced? It's not even worth it... Oh well, I didn't really care all that much.

Oh yeah, and what is that little scoop thingy right above the passenger headlight? I pulled it off, but I couldn't tell where it went after it disappeared into the fender.

Thanks.

That's the air intake, Velocity. I take it you haven't removed your intake silencer? That little scoop goes into the fender, through a big ugly silencer thing, then back out of the fender to the filter box.

Cool

Speaking of the silencer, I was thinking of getting rid of mine - easy to do? I've got some Impreza buddies who've removed theirs by going through the fender. Is that a good move with the Legacy's? Or is there another way? Thanks....

absolutely worth doing on the Legacy. there is an annoying high pitched hum that you'll have to get use to (at idle) put its worth it.

Question

Yeah, so is it necessary to pull off the wheel to get to the bulk of the silencer?

Its a lot easier if you take the wheel off, but probably not necessary- you need to take some of the foward fender well covers (on the bottom of the car) off, then pop the bolts on top (where the air cleaner housing attaches to the fender)then pull the assembly out from the bottom. If you take the wheel off you can take the fender well cover off from there and have more space to maneuver. Its been a while, so I can't remember all the details.

Yeah that was me with the LTD Apex. It was nice meeting with you briefly. Oh yeah.. I forgot to say that you need to pull the lens off very slowly and evenly to keep it from cracking. I can't exactly remember where the little screw was but it's pretty easy to miss as I almost did. Yeah the goo is pretty thick in there but I like the end result.

Once I got the corner lenses off I put them in some boiling water for about 5 to 10 minutes.. I kept a close eye on them, turned them and kept them off the bottom of the pot so as I would'nt warp them or anything. It worked great. I started with the hair dryer but I am not that patient. It still took some elbow grease to get those babies apart. But after trying the hair dryer, I would boil them if I was to do this again.

I have a 99GT and the corner lamps are easy to take out. It's like one large phillips screw on the top. Once that was loose all you have to do is pull the lens forward and it should pop out. You might have to pull kinda hard.

Anyways.. I hope this helps. It wasn't that easy. But it was easier than replacing a starter in an mx-6.

Well, I had a couple of spare hours, so I went and yanked out the intake silencer. It actually only took me about 45 minutes, but it took 15 minutes just to get the freakin' fenderwell cover back in. It pissed and moaned the whole way. Anyhow, reset the ECU, and it sounds pretty good. Can't tell if it did anything to the power, so I guess it didn't.

Tomorrow- Round 2 with the headlights. I'm gonna go look at them once more.

I cut off the bottom half of my airbox! Go to http://www.randomsoup.com and click on Russ's little subie page. Also, I have a picture of a 1994 LEgacy GT that I just about bought that had factory clear corners. If anyone is interested e-mail me and I will send it. Thanks,
