Default WRX strut assemblies in a 92 Legacy wagon

Does any one know if '02-'03 WRX strut assemblies will fit an older Legacy wagon. A friend of mine has an older 92 LSi wagon with air ride height and needs struts bad, but doesn't want to spend the $300+ per strut.
Just wondering if anyone has tried this or has any info. I am aware that the air ride height would have to be disconnected.
Thanks,
L J

More info..
I was wondering if WRX takeoffs,... springs, tophats and all, will physically fit.
Buying the non airride struts is ok, but if I have to buy springs, tophats, ect, to make it work, the cost difference with time involved may not be as cost effective.

They Work fine, I had 2004 WRX suspension(read: strut hophat and spring) in my 91. The front tophat fits fine but you need to extend the holes in the rear to use the wrx rear tophats, if you do not want to do this just use the tophats from a 92.
You will also need to add a thick washer to the top of the rear tophats so the nut on the top of the strut will be tight, if not it bang bang bang.

Here is a pic of mine, it lowers it a bit, but not bad at all

If you go from a bc/bf legacy to a GD tophad the holes are about 5MM wider in each direction and you need to extend the bolt holes in the rear.
