Default 2.5L STI shortblock on JDM heads and ECU?

So it looks like my JDM block is a gonerhttp://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=960763 and I am going to have to find a replacement. Ideally I would like to not spend a lot of money on it. A used JDM shortblock in good condition would be my first option. With that not being available, I've started to look at 2.5L STI shortblocks... They cost less than a new JDM empty block and supposedly heads will bolt right up to it. Now, the problem is that I am stuck with my stock JDM engine management and its 8000RPM redline. For all practical purposes my ECU is NOT reflasheable and I can not afford any kind of standalone right now.
So, the question is... Would it run safely? Am I going to get detonation from the 8.7-1 compression and the JDM ignition timing? Will the block fly apart at 8000RPMs? Is this a stupid idea?

Thanks!

Not yet. Lachutte is a good 20+ hour drive for me, and the trip + the cost of the reflash is more than I could afford

Fast piston speeds? There are a ton of long stroke cars that have much faster piston speeds. Most high rpm trouble is oiling related, not easily fixed but more pressure can help. I say try it, I would like to know if it works
