Default Is it true that Cobb is working on VF39 map for 2.0L WRX?

I saw a thread over at wrxforum that Cobb is working on a VF39 map for 2.0L WRX. Has anyone heard about this? Considering VF39's can be had for around $300-400, it will be a great alternative for those who are looking for a medium sized/inexpensive turbo.

That's the rumor. I've seen VF39 go for as low as $280 on Ebay...

There are tuners that make custom AP maps for this set up.

You can run a VF39 off of the VF34 Cobb map... but obviously a Protune is recommended. I have a VF39 on my 2.0L WRX with a custom VF39 basemap that's pretty basic in terms of mods (VF39, STi pinks, Walbro, TBE + UP... running 16.8psi)

It would be great if Cobb made a map exclusivly for the VF39 but as we all know they have been claiming to bring out a stage 3 VF34 map for almost 2 years now. After reading through the COBB forum thread, there was no mention of the VF39 map, only the 16G.

Is there a way for you to share that map with the rest of us?

Yeah, I was told there is not enough interest from users to validate spending the engineering time to create a VF39 specific map.

The problem is that they don't make any money off new maps since everyone has already bought the AP and anticipated the release of new maps... cough stage 3, vf39, 16g for the '04-'05. While at the same time, they are putting all of their new map developements into the '06's since people are buying the AP's for these cars. I wish the pdx would make their own flasher and corner out cobb.

i'm merely speaking from personal experience. i've actually ran the vf39 on my 05 wrx with cobb's vf34 map. extensively datalogged and even dyno tested. the dyno operator (AMS in Carson) was surprised how strong my car was running. he mistook it for an sti, and told me not to even bother to touch the tuning.

Dyno operator was also one of the best tuners in the world ^^;

I understand that the Cobb VF34 map is designed to work with pinks...I have a VF39, DW 650cc modded stock injectors, Walbro 255 pump, and eBay intake ready to install...I already have an eBay TMIC installed, gutted up, catless TBE, and one step colder plugs running a more agressive (boost) stage II map.

Will the difference in injector size matter if I run the Cobb map...this is until I learn a little more about tunning and feel more comfortable about what I'm doing?

Thanks.

yes, the pinks are 550cc and the latency and scale values are very different. u need to scale them properly or the car wont even start. u can be a little off with the boost target mapping for the 34 to 39. i use the 39 mapping from the stage 2 map for a 22 in my car and i just adjusted the wastegate duty a little for spiking.

on a side not, i have a 39 for sale, hell im practically giving it away! but theres a catch, u will need to replace the bolt that runs through the center of it, as in a rebuild. but im tryin to get it out of my garage so if anyones interested, hit me up!
