Default UTEC - VF34 Brass Restrictor (Resolved)

Guys while I wait for my Perrin 3 port boost Solenoid to arrive I decided to give the UTEC ABC a try. Now I'm out to 3 turns and my gain is 47. I can make 10-11psi consistendly and on a long 4th gear pull will sometimes see 12psi.

I want to run 15psi and my CL values are 375 under WOT (100% column). So why can't I reach my boost target? I belieive the answer is when I got the VF34 put on they didn't use the stock restictor going the compressor to the T piece. I couldn't feel a restrictor in there while poking around with long nose pliers. However where the hose connects to the T piece I can feel something there but it seems like it the end of the T piece itself. There is nothing in the middle of the hose.

What side, compressor or T piece is the restrictor usually located. Man I just wanna run my deisred boost targets. Thanks for the help...

WG—T— r—Turbo Compressor

The “r” above represents the factory restrictor location. The “T” above represents the factory “t-fitting”. The bottom of the t-fitting runs to the factory boost control solenoid (and the ABC ‘y-fitting” if running the UTEC)

In other words, the factory restrictor is between the factory t-fitting and the pressure fitting on the compressor side of the turbo.

Thanks bcblues that is very helpful and much appreciated.

Now my hunch was right, I used the Compressor Hose from the TD04 which which I checked for the brass restrictor (lodge cloeser to the T-Piece side). I replaced this with the VF34 compressor hose which did not have one in place.

Went out and starting logging and I hit 15psi with just a CL value of 300 and the ABC turned out 3 times. This was acutally my 15psi map and how lucky was I with the CL values, right on the money. I tried my 17psi map with CL at 340 and hit this target no problems. Man the car just pulls even in 5th gear from 2500rpm onwards. Power is addictive!

So for those of you who have an upraded turbo I suggest you have the stock restrictor in place if you want to make decent boost. Even more so for those who don't have a boost gauge.
