Angry MAJOR problem...

So yesturday i was driving my car all day, and it was all running perfect. Last night i parked it for about 3hrs, and when i come back my fans are running . so i go to start my car and it starts freaking out.
1st. it wont fire up, ill turn over but thats it.
2nd. my CEL is flashing like crazy, with out any pattern to it, just going on and off very fast.
3rd. When my key is in the ON posittion my Relays are going crazy also, turning on and off.

So i reset my ecu, and tried it again, and still the same thing

anyone had anything like this happened to them?

thanks
kirill

What you are describing is what happens when the green diagnostic plugs under the dash are connected together, although the fans shouldn't be running with the car off.

just went back to the car and figgured out a couple more things.
NO power at ECU, and the relays are not even clicking over anymore .
Im also getting weird Voltages at backsides of fuses. Main Fuse(the one that has the protection on it inside the engine bay fuse box) has 12.XX volts on one side, and 11.XX on the backside that shouldnt have voltage.
My CEL is not turning on in any key posittion, but the fans are still running w/ the Key off.
So im thinking i got a ground side short somewhere...
My test mode connector(the green one) is not affecting the car at ALL. as well as te black CEL connector. they both have no affect on the car.

Try a new battery, or charge the one you're using. The voltage you read on the backside of the fans might be a "surface" voltage, and not indicative of the batt voltage under load.

After doing more poking around i found a couple more things.
At the Fan fuse im getting cotinuity between the + and the - terminals. Also on the back of the Fan plugs in one of the wires im also getting continutiy between the + and the - battery leads.
So it seems to me that ive got a MAJOR power side short somewhere. I dont even dare to keep the - battery cable on the batt. due to the severety of the short. The arcing is huge when i connect the battery. Also if i remove the Fan fuse and the Fan relay the arcing is just as big. so first thing tomorrow im doing is pulling the passanger side fender and looking around.
I have a feeling that his is happening due to the fact that the left fender seems to have been removed before(by previous owner) and sense most of the electrical conections running to the fuse box run thrue the fender there is a chance that something in there is not looking so good. Also its been raining VERY hard here recently so i think that rain might have helped the short as well.

On the side note, im also getting 1.2V at the B44-5 terminal on the ECU

Mmmm. If that fender came off, it wasn't me. We never dorked around with any wiring in the car. Good luck, Kiril & I hope you get it solved.

Testing more stuff i found some other things.
EVERY power suply wire on my car has continuity between both the + and the - lead terminals...
So it comes down to something like this. My entire electical system is shorted out. and what makes no sense to me is, the car ran perfect for 3K miles, and then one night it just craped out...extra hard.

anyone know what would cause the fans to be on when the car is off? i didt even think they stayed on when the car was hot(above normal temp) and the key was taken out.

When you checked for continuity between the +/- did you isolate the circiut?
ex: unplug wiring from the fans and harness so it is not connected to the rest of the car then check continuity for the fan circiut. I would try this with all the high amp circuits in the car. unlikely for the whole harness to just burn out. double check your relays for the slightest bit a heat seen melted relay cause havoc on wiring diag. good luck

Well some more intresting things.
Worked on my car for a bit and got a couple of crazy things. Well as you know my fans stay on w/ the key off, as well as in the ACC possition. Well after playing around for a bit today i got them to turn off, but they will turn back on if i move the batt. cable a little bit. if i play around a little more i will be able to get my dash lights. depending on my skills w/ moving around the batt. cables ill be able to get my car to crank over, but sometimes it will short out and everything will get turned off. then if i touch my batt. cables my power will turn on. however i still cant get my main or fuel pump relays to turn on.

as far as the wiring job, everything is soldered and shrink wraped...just so i woudlnt have to deal w/ this, but i guess it still happened.

When in doubt, blame the previous owner...

im not blaming you guys(the car had 217K when i picked it up , and i knew it woouldnt be perfect), becoue i know you only had the car for a very short time. Im saying the [previous owner before might have played around w/ it.
Also i found out that the car has been in an accident before, the front right lower frame(under the car) is collapsed a bit, but the rest of the frame is straight, so its all good.

Did you check the wiring going to the SMJ? It sounds to me that if you move the battery around and things change then the problem just might be with the group of wires going to the SMJ. For example, where the wires go through the metal part of the inner finder behind the battery, they might have shorted out. Radiator fans are switched on with ground and not power (at least on my 98 RS) and if the ground to the fans is shorted out it could cause them to run all the time.

I hear you. You didn't get to meet me when you picked up the car. If you had, you would know I am never serious unless I am tearing you a new arsehole...

Now, I should probably go re-read your thread and see if I can be helpful to your issue...

i actualy found the location of the problem. its somewhere in my main fuse box or the wiring going into the fender. Today i tried a new batt, and whyle putting it on i had to stretch the hell out of the cables(batt came out of my fathers SUV), well whyle doing that and having the key in the ON possition i heard my PES start clicking on and off, if i moved the fuse box one way it would throw a CEL(means my ECU is getting power, where as before it had non) . so tomorrow im going to tear my fender off, and tear appart that wiring, and tear the fuse box appart...hope to get it done and solved tomorrow
