Post Thinking of trading in OBS for Legacy GT...

Yeah, I'm actually thinking about it. I was wondering if you guys knew if the Legacy GT had more legroom in the front/back than the Impreza. I can get a new GT at dealer's cost, and think I can get at least $14k+ for my OBS....would move over the Raceline RL-7s, Toyo T1-S rubber, Cusco 20mm, and KYB GR-2s, of course.

Anyone have any opinions as to if this would be a wise move? I'd like something a little quieter...I may even get a Japanese spec hood scoop and move the Minnam Stage-2 over if I decide to keep it. Opinions?
Thanks,
Geoff

There's a thread going on now in the Powertrain forum about adding a turbo to an 00 Legacy. http://www.i-club.com/ubb-files/Foru...ML/000340.html

Geoff, this is the Legacy forum, I think we're going to be a little biased.

Of course you should trade in the OBS. You won't regret it. Even in stock form, it handles good. With a little suspension mod, the handling becomes awesome. It's a bit underpowered for the size of the car...an issue that can be fixed if you're thinking forced induction down the line.

BTW, I think that thread Dennis refered to is talking about fitting an older Legacy turbo to a MY00 RS.

GT Wagon or Sedan? According to the manufacturers specs. on Yahoo, they both are roomier than the OBS. The GT Wagon is even roomier. You'll definately feel the difference. I have an OBS and my wife has an OB. Check out Yahoo for comparisons. http://autos.yahoo.com/shop/compare?d=a&id=5869&id=7381

speaking from a 95-99 Legacy standpoint, there is definitely much more leg, shoulder and headroom in the Legacy than the Imprezza. Also the wheelbase is about 3 or 4 inches longer making it a much quieter/smoother ride. The 95-99 Legacy is also wider than the Imprezza. The 95-99 Legacy definitely doesn't have the "compact car" feel of the Imprezza, and seems to have more sound dampening as well. I can only imagine that the bigger 2K Legacy is even more of an improvement and is probably much more refined than the 95-99s. However there's quite a weight penalty w/ the newer Legacies so you definitely won't feel as sporty.

I went with my GT sedan because of leg room. (I'm 6'2" and all legs) I was practically sitting in the back seat of the Impreza, and my shins were very close to hitting the underside of the dash. Shifting was more of a chore than a pleasure.

As for feel. I notice that there is a little more body roll, but a sway bar will be fixing that shortly.

My 0.04$

Guys - Thanks for the input.

I'd probably be looking at a Legacy GT sedan, though I'm still thinking of getting a wagon. I love the OBS, but I need something just a /little/ more practical...I may have my chance to do something with it soon.

Anyone out there put on a 20mm bar and some KYB GR-2s or similar? I realize it wouldn't be like my OBS with the WRX springs on it, but I'd want something that could still handle.

Right now, I'm debating whether I want to bring my Minnam Stage-II over or not; I may just sell it. Any other opinions?

If you're looking for practicality, go wagon, baby! I have a '98 GT wagon with 19mm bar and KYB AGXs on stock springs. I'll spare you a long review of the car's enhanced potency, referring you to the "AGX w/stock springs" thread. But it's exceptional, and turn-in is remarkable.

Still looking for a set of springs with a mild drop, then I'm finished.

Hey Saberlion,

wellll since you are looking into a wagon, you MIGHT wanna loookat the new H6 wagons...hehe A bigger engine for your buck.. You'd lose performace for the added weight but gain the HP&torque...hehe Who knows, if you tuned it, you might be able to smoke the pre'00 models ehehe

why dont u just wait and get the WRX wagon? not as big as the GT wagons but bigger than the current OBS. And definitely will spank any GT wagons too. also the price would not be that big a difference b/t a GT wagon loaded with a WRX wagon. It's up to you. I love the GT wagon. tint it!!!

I'm on my way home to install the sway bar on my '00 wagon. Don't want to burst your bubble, but the rear sway seems to be a lot different for '00, so you won't be able to use your old one. I'd have to crawl under a '99- to be sure. Still, its not enought $$ to be a deal breaker.

Its gonna be a fun night for me though!

Also, the '00+ cars seem to be a bit slower because of extra weight. But the NVH is a lot nicer, especially with the 5 speed.
