Was he running drugs from the coast? Did he have a mobile meth lab?

He really should've just kept going. At 119 he had some room to grow.

ooof 49 over?? Get a lawyer. Frankly, he deserved a bad ticket for that. If he got to drive the car home, he was lucky already.

I think its higher than that, I know I had a ticket or two for like 30 over when I was young and dumb. I have a fairly strict 10-15 over limit now. SOMETIMES 20

yeah I usually stay within 15 over myself, but have been known to do more. maybe it was higher, 30 or 35 over the posted, but it was also worded to me as being "at the officer's discretion"
the most I've been ticketed for was 80 in a 60.

I think anything over 20 they can haul you in if they feel it warrents it (you being a **** to the cop) But if it was an open area, no traffic or the cop believed your tears, etc, then they can just ticket you and let the judge rip you a new one in court.

+1 for getting a good lawyer or manning up and taking what he deserved.

I also think it all depends on what the speed limit is where you were busted.

20mph over the limit in a 60mph zone is distinctly worse than 20mph over the limit in a 20mph zone

I still cant beleive my worst offense, I walked away with a slap on the wrist.

I was 16, young and stupid, I was drag racing a fiero, and blasted past a cop, I was doing 97mph in a 35 zone, racing (very obvious race too) it was 2am (in pa when you are under 18, your lisc "expires" at midnight till 6am) and I wasnt wearing my glasses (had the corrective lense thing on my lisc)

The cop gave me an $84 "driving at an unsafe speed" ticket, which is really minor and let me go. I took it as a BIG lesson, and never raced there again. I look back at the stuff I did back then and cant believe I never got killed. I was so stupid... 16 years later I drive mostly within the law. The only time I grossly speed is when tuning my UTEC, but then I do those pulls on roads that are pretty much empty most of the time and have nowhere for anyone to pull out in front of me.

he's gonna need a lawyer. That is considered reckless driving and he could possibly face jail time for it if the judge decides too. Was this in the Woodlands? If so, depending on what judge he gets he could either walk away with a lot of community service (which is the best option) and having to write an essay on why he shouldn't drive like that.

If things go wrong, he could lose his license, face jail time for possible reckless endangerment and have a nice gigantic increase in his insurance premium.
Either way he is going to pay for this for the next 5-6 years at least, depending on his age, through insurance at least.

I don't see much chance of them dropping 119 mph or letting it go to deferred adjudication. He's going to need a lawyer to work out a bargain with the DA.
They have really gotten strict back home about all that stuff. It's just not even worth driving fast or having a fast car there anymore.

I honestly wish they were as lenient as they were a while ago. We have hollywood to thank, in part, for the new strict codes of enforcement and profiling of young drivers in Japanese cars.

Just be thankful you don't live in Cali.

Anybody know how old the guy in question is? And +1 for Cali, that was always a big thing when we used to race there. If you didn't get pulled over at least twice a month to be harrased then something wierd was going on.

I got a welcome to LA pulled over on my GC on 101 cruising w/ my buddy's local WRB WRX trying to join the Hollywood Bar/ Clubs scene.

Off: You have no front LP
Me: It's not required in TX
Off: Oh okay. You have a loud exhaust.
Me: Not that loud Sir. I pass ins in TX no problem
Off: But you are in California. Do you live here now?
Me: I'm just visiting for 2 weeks sir. Can I get a warning instead?
Off: Okay. Just drive carefully and enjoy your stay here..

I love Texas..
