Default going to autox this weekend for the first time...

...down here in Old Bridge, NJ. Anyone know where I can get a good/cheap helmet with such short notice?

If you don't have any luck finding one there are usually loaner helmets available at most events.
Doesn't really answer your question but may be helpful information anyway.

You might have better luck posting in the Tri State Forums

Good luck at auto-x, it's a blast!

for an autox you'll just need a motorcycle helmet with a SNELL approval rating...

So call some local motorcycle shops and find one that carries the brand HJC, their generally fairly cheap but are very well reviewed. My HJC CL-14 fits like a glove, has lasted me for years, and I think was ~$80 when I bought it.

Make sure when you're deciding on a size you spend a good 20 minutes in each helmet. Yes, you'll like a jackass in the store with a helmet on, but you won't find out on the day of the autocross that the helmet you bought has a pressure point that gives you a headache..

Ebay can score you a pretty cheap snell helmet new. For your first autox, just use one of the loaners they provide.

What jmolaver said. The only place local to me is a motorcycleshop, but they have a ton of helmets that'd work. I second the "try it on before you buy it."

They do have loaners, but at the autox I went to, they only had three or four, and there were a few times when I was sitting in line to go without a helmet because people couldn't figure out that when they finished their run, they had to return the freaking things. It's a bit less stressful when you have one of your own, and plus, it won't be all sweaty.

I wouldn't buy anything until you're sure you're going to stick with it awhile.
A lot of clubs have paper numbers you can tape on your car with low-stick tape. The blue easy-release painter;s tape is good for this.
Or you can print your own numbers Here.

...Or you can just use the painters tape to make the numbers on the car.

Just went to my first one this last weekend up at Warminster.

Now I'm not sure if I want to wait for the April 21st school, or try to get some help at the next AutoX event

+1 for addicting...and I haven't even driven yet
