I bought the coolingmist. It looks more advanced (you can program the flow at given PSI), and is more affordable. I got it from Mike @ InnovativeTuning. He is a very good guy.

how do you mean more affordable? you mean because you dont have to buy alcohol? or a cheaper price to purchase the kit?

I built my kit taking what i thought were the most important aspects from a few kits, before you even buy a kit learn everything u can about what it is doing, what WI does, what is, what it is not. Expectations for the systems need to be set before you go slap on on your car.

Well my car is setup with an Ecutek reflash so it has no built in ability to activate the WI so I went the route of using the Cooling Mist Boost Pressure switches, I wanted to have dual stage so installed two of these and set the levels on them at 10psi right above the WG only boost, and at 15psi. The car is tuned for 22psi total boost.

This is the pillar setup I installed, from the bottom up we have a gauge I know it says AIR pressure but really this is the water pressure of the system. Its set for a max of 100psi and drops to a low of 75psi before the pump comes back on. The red led is the low water indicator this is from the stock STI intercooler spray tank in the trunk. Next is the boost gauge the bottom light on this tree is when the pump is working and should be green along with the pressure going back up. The 2nd green light is the first stage opening up, the third light is when the second stage starts. These lights are wired into solenoids that are set closed until they get a ground from the Boost pressure switches.

You can see the solenoids in this picture along with the jets used.

The solenoids are also from coolingmist. I used high pressure tube used in air systems for the whole system it is accepted by the Washington State DOT so I figured it would be good enough for this project. Great push on style connectors. The water supply line teeís off to supply both solenoids adequate water. Then they run to the IC piping. Iím using the Auquamist jets as I found they are by far the best out there. The spray pattern is very fine and continuous and with the 25psi variance in pressure I found the spray to not deform greatly before the pressure came back up.

As for the pump im using the Shurflo 100psi 1.8 gpm along with an accumulator also from Shurflo so when the pump does come on the flow dose not spike the water jets. So far the system has worked very well and the car was tuned to 310whp with a FP 18g turbo with supporting mods by PDX tuning. There are many ways to add a safe guard to the system but what I have noticed is that when the light for the stage comes on the pressure needle on the gauge will fluctuate so I know for sure the solenoid opened up. In case of some system failure the D-tec allows me to turn boost to WG pressure witch is lower then when the WI system starts activating.

I just wanted to post up another way of building a system for your car.

Probably switching to a fmic soon but going to play w/ that setup for now...

Farms and local speed shops are your best bet for alky. As a side note I suggest the Snow Performance kit as I am slightly biased . I don't want to make this sound like a sale so I will reframe my self as much as possible. There are several great kits out there (Snow, SMC, Aquamist, Coolingmist) you just have to looks at all the features and see what is best for you. I like the Snow Performance kit for its clean install, easy use and setup, great customer service, abiltity to run straight methanol, price comparably and ONE of few kits to have an actual failsafe (will have video shortly). I owned SMC before on my car but switched for reasons to Snow Performance. PM me for pricing if interested. Our kits have more features for the price.

i have yet to have my car tuned for the water/meth set up. there is a newer software release coming from UTEK that i am waiting for.

here is what i put down withOUT the water/meth, on 92*

Sweet! This is the route I'm planning for in the future. (year or two)

note that Rallispec sells the 12 liter trunk-mounted intercooler sprayer ... what a great place for your water/alky

only if u dont have subs that fit in that spot. Most people including myself are using the sti ic spray tank. it fits in an area not used at all, and if u buy the trunk liner it looks all stock.

Bump.

Where do you source METHANOL here in the N.W?

ive tried VP racing fuels here in Pasco. they want 35 dollars for 5 gallons. i 'thought' methanol went for 2-3 dollars a gallon. Am i mistaken? there is a 76 station that sells higher octane fuel...but i havent been able to get into communication w/ them.

Does PDX sell it?

I was hoping to get some METHANOL here on the east side of WA state.
thanks
Ryan

you been gettin' it from PDX?

check this out: http://www.vpracingfuels.com/vp_01_fuels.html#specialty
scroll to the bottom and see the meth section. 99.5% minimum purity. i guess if the paint store is 20 a gallon, and VP is 35 for 5 gallons, its a no brainer. Somehow i had it in my head that meth was 2 or 3 bucks a gallon . oh well. even if i fill up my meth-h2o mix everytime i get gas. it'll probly only go through 2-3 gallons a month. not bad.
