Default Cobb stg 2 vs. Vishnu stg 1

2004 STi. Which do you think is better? Cobb 350 hp, $1775. Vishnu 370 hp, $1595. I think I'd be content with a remapped ecu as opposed to the customizability of the AP. Should the fact that I live in Breckenridge, CO @ 10,000 ft affect my decision? Is the Vishnu exaust significantly louder? I thought the Cobb sounded pretty mellow.

More projects than
you can shake a stick at.

but you don't have to do the whole cobb package, you can get a cheaper dp, and cat back, as stated above, and then you have the flexibility of more tuning when you want to upgrade more

sweet you just got scammed sucka :P

k well to explain to the starter of the thread why horsepower means jack i will need to get serious

those horsepower numbers are crank horsepower. Unless they did the mods to a engine and put in on a engine dyno then they could not get a exact number.

They got these by taking the power they got at the wheel and calculating drivtrain loss.

And depening on how they calculate them will change the number.

Now I would recommend cobb parts. Cause they rock. and they are in UT so they know higher elevation better. And they rock. It is that simple :P

i suggest getting the Cobb A/P because you'll have swap to differnet maps on the fly which can be useful, which it doesn't look like you can do with the Vishnu. Vishnu looks like you have to swap out the ECU and just go with what you've got, Cobb will send you the A/P and you just plug in and go, no touching or pulling out the ECU. You could even start with that and a stage1 flash, then get the exhaust when you've got more cash, download the stg2 flash and yer good to go, no pulling out ECU/sending/etc. Then wait and find a slightly used exhaust, or a deal on a new one, my personal opinion is that any turboback system that's basically the same design as the cobb or vishnu is probably pretty darn close in performance, although cobb spends tons of hours on the dyno making sure all of their stuff is perfect and reliable long term (vishnu prob does the same, but i dunno).

for the record, i haven't thoroughly researched any of this stuff for the STI, but researched tons when playing with my WRX and decided Cobb was the way to go...but everyone has different opinions. I think Cobb tends to be a little more on the conservative side as far as HP #s go (not going for simply max HP numbers, but going for the best torque curve possible, which i think is better), but i get the impression their stuff you could leave in your car forever without killing it, while other companies don't worry so much about engine longevity and reliability.

that's my 2 cents.

EDIT: And "Stage 2" sounds cooler than "Stage 1" so go Cobb - even if the vishnu stage 1 leaves you with more power...few people will stop to ask you which "Stage" your car is when you smoke them on the freeway, but chattin it up with the newbies the "Stage 2" gives you more street cred... in case you're 16 and care about that.

I recomend the cobb too, you'll have a much better base to more hp later with it.
