2004 BL Legacy GT
AVO and the 06 Hypermeet at Tsukuba
It's that time of the year again. AVO's busy prepping for the Hypermeet on the 2nd April at Tsukuba Circuit - probably the largest and best gathering of Subaru's in the world. And some Evo's as well, but they don't count.
We will be running two cars in the time attack this year. Last year we ran the AVO Legacy, and we will be doing so again:
We've gone a bit further with it this time. With full experience on the HKS coilovers, settings are dialed in far better than last year. We've also upgraded to our new endlinks, and changed the ride height a bit in the front. STI engine mounts and transmission mount has been fitted, and it has made a world of difference in the feel of the car. Much more than I would have thought, actually. The drivetrain squidging around under power was just not fun, but with everything nice and tight it feels like a (better than) new car again. An exhaust manifold has gone in as well, along with a full exhaust from the turbo back. We will be dynoing it next week, but right now, I have to say it feels much stronger above 3000rpm. It is a little bit softer below that, but doesn't affect it enough to be a bother. Spark plugs have been changed, all the bits and pieces lubricated, we are ready to go!
Our last race at Central Circuit went well, pretty much owning the street tire class, moving up 5 places within 5 laps. Once the report is printed in scoobymag I'll post a version here.
The big car will be the AVO Little Red Wagon, though. It's been revamped from drag strip duty to circuit duty, with a full coilover suspension custom valved for the car by Original Box, and new bits and pieces throughout. The rear end is busy being rebuilt right now - 570hp tends to do that to cars... Hollinger gearbox, new LSD's, lots of brightwork in the engine bay, and a snail big enough to suck birds in.
I'm confident we will do good this round, despite a lack of experience on Tsukuba lately. May just have to do some mountain runs for practice.
