Default what clutch/flywheel to use with hybrid 2.2/2.5?

I'm planning on running a 2.5 small block with 2.2 heads and delta cams. I have the 2.2 outback 5 speed transmission. what should i use to mate them? I want to stay very drivable and i'm not looking to spend a lot of money (if any at all), so i preffer stock equipment. Am i going to have to use the 2.5 flywheel and clutch? or can i use my 2.2 clutch and flywheel?

Either the 2.2 or 2.5 should work, as long as they are both from the normally aspirated engines.

I believe the 2.2 and 2.5 are the same clutch now that i think of it.

+1 for either .. but if your making more than 165 hp it may very well slip espicaaly if the clutch has any miles on it

i've heard that with this setup and a little help breathing, the engine should make a little over that (i might be missinformed or missread, and please correct me if i'm wrong). can anyone else confirm that the 2.2 and 2.5 share the same clutch/flywheel parts? should i buy a new 2.5 clutch and flywheel or can i get away with just the clutch probably?

Unless you want to upgrade to a lightweight flywheel, there is no reason to change your flywheel, that is assuming it isn't worn out. As for the clutch, get the ACT stage I clutch and pressure plate and you'll be fine...

or you can do what i did, and get a ACT STG1 disk, and use the stock Flywheel and Pressure plate.
It works great in my car, but im using a pull type settup.

how difficult is it to change the clutch/pressure plate once the engine is out? I've never done it, are there any particular tools/parts i'm going to need?

Its simple when the engine is out.. It'll be bolted to the back of it. There are six 10 or 12mm bolts that hold the pressure plate on the flywheel. If you get a new aftermarket clutch, it'll come with a tool to help line up the clutch disk. You should also replace the throwout bearing while your in there. That'll still be attached to the transmission input shaft.

Ive got the stage 1 exedy($160 on ebay), using my stock 2.2 flywheel. always use the flywheel specific to what clutch setup your trans uses.
