Default My Roll

Hi
Finally put this up on You Tube for all to see.
This was at the Pacific Forest Rally in Oct. of 05.

The Talon was sold for parts - and I am now 95% finished my new car - my 04 WRX.
Should be fun!

It's windshield washer fluid - at first we thought it was fuel, so we were a bit panicked to get out - but then, no smell - so it was okay.

i guess if you are upside down then the fuel may not drip onto anything hot... hopefully.

I guess - but after going "around" a few times - coming to a stop - seeing that my co - driver was okay - and then seeing some "liquid" streaming from under the hood - the first thought is fuel. If it had been fuel - the car would have caught fire for sure - just from the fumes and the hot turbo / exhaust.
That was the main reason why my new car now has a fuel cell.

Once the rolling stopped - and we were both out and okay - it was a pretty big rush. Durring and shortly after though - it was pretty panicked.

Okay - here goes.
Coming around the R4 into L3 down - tightens . . . we slid out a bit on the R - and as I corrected during the "into" we hit water on the road (it had been on an off / spotty raining all morning) and the back end slid out to early for the up coming L. I down shifted and kept my foot in it to attempt to power through the apex of the L. There was a small 1' deep ditch the was full of water/mud - which hooked the right front wheel and started the rolls.
As we were about 90 degrees over I thought "oh crap we're gonna roll" - on the first impact - 180 (upside down) I thought "that wasn't that bad" it continued on - - as we went back to wheels I thought "okay - it's over" we then rolled 2.5 more times (during which I thought to myself "when is this going to end". We ended up being stopped by a tree - about 8' above the ground. If we had not hit the tree - I am sure we would have rolled several more times - as the tree was in the way of a down hill bank.
As soon as we stopped - and while the glass was still flying - my biggest fear was for my co-driver. You can hear me saying "are you okay" many many times.

After that it was a matter of getting out. I had "the tree" against my door and my co-drivers door was half on the ground and half blocked by a 400lb rock.

I released out of my belts and ended up hammering out the windshiled with the heal of my hand. 27 hits later ant there was a hole big enough to climb out. By that time the next car had stopped and as I crawled out the 2nd car stopped. Since we were both okay - they eventually carried on and we got picked up and driven back to service by sweep.

Not something I want to do again - But ALL the safety items worked - so it was not really that bad.
Plus the Doctor that checked me out was a super hottie, and she had just finished becoming a Dr. so she made sure to check me out fully - including a neck and back massage!

Now, that's a happy ending to an otherwise sad story if I've ever heard one!

i'm still not too sure if I believe you "gasoline" story. The fluid seems to be coming from the seat area on the driver's side...

j/k j/k

The video was pretty scary but its good to know that nobody was hurt.

The first time I rolled the Justy and while we were still hanging upside down with our seat belts my friend says: "you know, that was kinda cool". I can laugh at it now, but at the time it wasn't so funny.

Um . . . You don't believe me????????
Well - I was actually there - After rolling 3 and a half times in 4 seconds - comming to a stop upside down against a tree - and then seeing LOTS of some type of fluid pouring out from under the hood - the thought that it MIGHT be gasoline - and "suggesting" to my co-driver that we get the F out of the car in a hurry - Just kinda seems like human nature?

Let me know your "thoughts" when it happens to you.

Sorry - missed the humor!

Didn't need a depends - but I did "water" the trees soon afterward.
