Who has built their block?

I wondering who has built up their Subaru block?
what kind of pistons/rods did you use?
and what work was done to it?

Rebuilt to stock, but thats about it. Haven't gotten to build the motor yet as I haven't been able to even get the car running for long enough to warrant it yet. :-/

Wiesco Pistons (8.5:1) required slight overbore.
Pauter Rods
Total Seal rings
All new stock valves.
Stock crank.

Nothing was really done to the head.

Most of the work that was done was to repair the damage the stock piston fragments created.

we've built 2.5 turbo w/pauter and outback motorsports rods ,6 diff. piston config. for 2.5 turbo. 2.0 turbo 20 psi, spearco intercoolers,garret turbos, you name it .see ya steve,

Mine has Pauter rods, Cobb spec JE forged pistons 9:1, 100mm bore and cams.

i still have a stock motor
but i 've built countless racing motors from topfuel drag cars to 125 shifterkart ones. no noise is good noise IMHO

My engine sounds like a deisel, and Cobb says it's one of the most quite 2.5 they have heard after forged pistons.

The noise could be several things...

Piston slap (to large clearance)
Valve train noise (need regapping/shimming)
Main/big/small end clearances too large

Most likely piston slap..... most forgies have to run more clearance due to their expansion characteristics.. when they are cold, they can tend to slap.. but the noise should go away.

Again.. the clearance varies from make/type of piston to another.

Like Tom says... no noise is good noise

On cold starts it sounds like a poorly tuned diesel. Once the pistons warm up, then it just sounds like a normal diesel, but I am 90% sure almost all my post-warmup noise is just valve-train noise.
