Default Brake pics after 4,000 miles and 2 open track days!

It seems as though when the WRC Tarmac Project isn't all shined up it actually gets driven, and pretty hard too!

Here are some brake pics after 4,000 hard street miles and two open track days...

Yeah, I think I cooked the Ferodo DS2500's pretty good. They were absolutely great on the street, and did fairly well on the track too, but I'm gonna try a proper set of race pads next time out - the Ferodo DS3000's.

Currently I'm waiting for my new rotors to arrive...

You would have felt the brake pad fade for it to be that bad, why didn't you slow down and let them cool?

It just a track day, not a race.

Then again I've done the same thing so I guess thats like pot calling the kettle black...

Yeah, I'm finding that out also...

I found another source for rotors though that are much less expensive than the AP Racing rotors from the UK, so that should help. The fact that AP Racing UK switched the foundry where the rotors are made and currently have a backlog of like 6 weeks kinda left me with no choice. The new rotors are getting stress relief treatment and for the track I'm gonna use proper track pads so hopfully everything will last a little longer, he he he.

Me too Makes no sense to have all this gee-wiz equipment just to put around town. I wanted something that can do tripple duty, ie, daily driving, car showing, and track days. I'm happy with the end result, although now after going to the track a couple of times and actually being quite competitive, I want a dedicated track car. Problem is that conflicts with my whole tripple duty idea, he he he (I did break down however and ordered a harness last week, along with some other goodies).

I didn't really, until I took it off. I've been monitoring my brake pads for wear and after the second track day they were getting kind of thin, so I decided I would change them. I also started to get some brake shudder after the second track day, but I thought it may just be uneven pad deposit, or the pads are really thin and I'm feeling the slots of the rotors through the pedal, which I hear is normal. Well, I didn't really want to put new pads on those worn rotors so I figured I'd change the rotors too, and that's when I noticed it. I only took a picture of one of the cracks, but I have more like that on the same rotor, and the cracks go all the way to the center, where it mounts to the hat. Good thing I'm a preventive maintenance kind of guy, or else I might have caught it too late.

Well, it was my first ever track days, so I didn't know what too expect. The brakes felt good each day, and never really fell off. The pedal got slightly softer at the end of the second day, but nothing that gave me too much to worry about. Thought maybe the fluid got hot. I did do the cool down lap without touching the brakes, but like an idiot after I parked, I stepped on the pedal out of habit (which now I understand is a bad idea with hot brakes, cause you may get pad imprint and that could lead to other problems). Now I'm all the wiser, and my new equipment should last a hell of a lot longer, especially since I'm gonna change out pads for track days...

Yea pedal feel doesn't change a whole lot when you get brake pad fade. Or at least I didn't notice it much. But stoping power sure takes a hit. Its like racing pads when their to cold. 'Cept its street pads when their to hot.

I just got new brake stuff too, but nothing as exciting as your setup. Just routine maintenance here. That and some dust free pads.

looks hot, shame that the rotors didnt hold up more. im sure they are a pretty penny to replace. $.02 flush out all that old fluid, if your pedal started getting soft then you most likely got it to start boiling a tad. then make sure you go back out and vigorously destroy some more rotors and boil some more fluid.
