Default 1994 Subaru Legacy Check Engine Light and Fuel Odor Inside Car

I am in need of anyone with information or has came across a problem with a real bad fuel smell inside my Subaru. Also, the check engine light comes on and goes off. While the Check Engine light is on the car has no power at all. When the Check Engine light goes off the car runs great. I have changed the cat and do not know what else to do. Can anyone help?

Have you tried disconnecting the test mode connectors (beneath lower dash on driver's side) and turning the key ON? What is the pattern of CEL flashing (# of long flashes followed by #of short flashes)?

I didnt even know I could do that. I was told by the dealer that for a 1994 I couldnt read no codes. I had to use a multimeter and Chilton Manual and test everything that way as the book will tell me how. I will do that then. Thanks so much. I will inform ya of what it is as soon as I get it done.

I had the same problem on my 97 OBW. Was a faulty EGR valve and a leaking Fuel Filler neck.

Hey, I ran the codes. I had 1 long blink, 2 short blinks, a pause then 2 long blinks and 2 short blinks. Both come up as Ingiton and knock censor. I am wanting to check the knock censor but I have no idea where its at.

Ayone can help, It would be really appreciated.

It also will not let it rev over 4200 RPM when the CEL Light is on.
If this can help anyone.

Thanks again
