Post What a shame.

Just been reading "Car" (UK) magazine's final report on its long-term Legacy 2.0. After six months of praising it for its engineering and mechanical superiority, body control and all the things we love 'em for, it damns the car because its badge isn't poncy enough for yer average, late-model-obsessed, mindless British buyer.

Is this ever, ever going to change? Unless you sell VW, Audi, BMW or Mercedes, the markets seem certain to damn you for all eternity ("it's not German, therefore it it is not good enough"). I suppose I should be grateful; a mediocre reception keeps the demand down and, consequently, the price.

well, I think the Subaru badge gets a heckuva lot more respect overseas than it does over here, so if the Brits are dissin' it, that is sad indeed!

Is the 2.0 a turbo? just wondering.

Yeah, it's a 220HP quad-cam sweetie. It's probably the engine the 2001 american Impreza will have.

Brit auto writers are gits.

The Brits are that hard on Subi's. There are no fewer than 6 models of Imprezas, each of them far superior to the RS that we get here.

DLC and others - no, it's not a turbo. There is no single-turbo Legacy produced for any market; only the twin-turbo RSK for the Japanese, NZ and Cyprus markets (as far as I can tell).

The 2.0 litre is a 125 bhp, 136 lb-ft smaller brother of the EJ25. The UK and other markets get this car because of the huge fuel costs; so while several other countries do get tasty cars, by God do they have to pay for them .

Have a Nice Day?

That's not a whole lotta power for the new B4 chassis which is pretty heavy- a lot heavier than the 95-99 Legacies. No wonder they're not blown away.

Well, bear in mind the Brits are used to small-engined cars. It wasn't the grunt that did it for them, although more is always welcome, of course - it was the badge (and the interior got a pasting for being bland). Having w*nked over the famous VW silicone damped grab handle and myriad overdesigned Audis for the last three years, this car seems to have brought the hacks down to earth with a practical bump.

Message to FHI: fit some hack-friendly damped silicon grab handles, sponsor a few smart-set sports events (maybe some hunts, or a point-to-point?), charge bucketloads for your cars, and you can do what VWAG did - take over the automotive world .
