Default strange "woooo" noise

when i'm going fast, like reallly fast, i hear this "woooooo" kind of noise... i've searched and it seems to be common among WRX/STI, and they seem to be comming from either the hood scrop, or from the mirrors, BUT the thing thats weird about this is.... it only happeneds when i'm off throttle. when i'm gasing it there's no such noise but once i lift off, the noise comes back... If it's actually wind noise then shouldn't the noise be there alll the time and be constant?

Yes, the howling from mirrors is dependant on speed and wind conditions and not throttle. As long as you're above a certain speed the sound will be there--on or off the gas.

What your experiencing must be different. Does it happen consitently once you reach a certain speed?

Could it be the tranny howling? I would assume at that speed you're in a gear that you wouldn't normally be in around town.

check the fluid level of your transmission / (differential as well for AT)...it sounds like gear noise to me...when u are on throttle all the gears are loaded and turning forward w/ all the drivelines, but once u are off throttle gear will act like a decelerator for gear moving "backwards"...sometimes changing the fluid / top up to the proper level might help as old fluid has lost the job for lubricating...

+1 for this.. try going up to higher rpms in first/second gear and let off the throttle to see if it makes a similar sound

Yeah, maybe that's it. How loud is the sound? The intake makes two kinds of sounds, one when you're on the gas, and another when you let off. I just never heard it until after I removed my stock air box. Maybe you just have really good ears.

Thats no excuse. Not bieng able to stop from 180 --> 0 can mean life or death for you and others.

Nonetheless, I cant throw any stones because I'm sure everybody has been through that situation.

I think everyone in that group is guilty of going over 180+. Some Chinese guy started it

Honestly, you guys are all hypocrites. At one time or another you were guilty of it.. so quit talking like you bought the car to go 50km's.

I actually wanted a TSX instead because it's a bit cheaper and bit more luxurious, not to mention better on fuel too but my dad saw the leather seats and all that luxury stuff and said that a young man shouldn't be driving a luxury car, so instead he went over to the Subaru dealership and bought me a WRX.

I'm not complaining

With regards to the "woooo" noise, have you tried folding back your mirrors? Sometimes there's a sticker behind there and it makes whistling sounds when you're going above a certain speed. I know my mirror did that before.
