Exclamation Thank you Fairfax County Sheriff's Dept!

For writing tickets to people who lock up the intersection in Tyson's corner!

For a couple days now there have been between 2 and 6 cops standing on the corner of rt 7 and Westpark Drive (across from Stole-Man Subaru) and waving people over. I finally pulled up next to one and asked what it was about (fearing it was inspections but hoping it was locking)... and it was for locking! Whoo hooo! Can't tell you how happy that makes me.

Now, of only they would watch the turning lane on rt. 7 and give tickets for people chucking cigarette butts out the window

Isn't there a red light camera there? don't the people that block get their pic taken?

9 years ago when I worked in Tyson's I realized that if I was a cop that exact intersection is where I'd spend 4:00 - 7:00 every day, doing exactly what you described. I even suggested it to Fairfax County. Glad to see they got right on that.

Red light cameras were on a 10-year pilot program that was discontinued last year or the year before. They found that while more serious t-bone accidents decreased, less serious rear-endings skyrocketed.

Don't block the box.

Locking == getting your ass into the intersection when there's tons of traffic and you have no hope of getting through, thus when the light changes the OTHER guys have no way of crossing the road because your ass is blocking the way.

Blocking the intersection. Your light turns green, you move forward, but due to traffic you can only move forward 5 feet so you sit in the middle of the lane. Your light then turns red, the traffic light for the road perpendicular to you turns green, but they can just sit there and honk & cuss at you b/c you're sitting in the middle of the damn intersection. This intersection is horrible for this.

Thanks Ted, Jon,

Same thing in NYC implemented long time ago. Not so much done because of stopping traffic but it's urgent when emergency vehicles need to get somewhere. They just called it blocking.

They even have the middle lane as the EV lane, not on the side lanes.

Every time this happens, I regret selling the Supertones.

Coz I have no qualms about giving someone an earful of Hella for an entire light cycle.

This is the real reason its illegal, but its the fact that its annoying that concerns most of us.

I was down at tysons last Friday and saw all the cops there, I was wondering what they were doing... thanks

I went to DC yesterday, and saw this all over the place. I rode the metro in, but the traffic was crazy downtown. The tools just block all over the place, and then the idiots being blocked just lay on the horn Yeah, like thats going to magicly move their car.

The goal is to make them very uncomfortable by calling attention to their idiocy. It may not fix anything, but it's satisfying!

Once I was turning left on a green arrow when a car ran a stop sign on a parallel access road and skidded to a stop in front of a school bus towo car ahead of me. The driver was so freaked out at almost getting tboned by a bus, she just sat there. The bus, a car, and I skidded to a halt, and I was in the intersection. I thought, "Oh crap. Now I'm going to be that guy because some dumb bitch can't function." Sure enough, just then my light turned yellow and it all went down hill.

I was in court for a speeding ticket once and this one guy had hit this lady because traffic was heavy and she had to stop in the intersection...the guys light turned green as he was still rolling toward the intersection and he hit her. He said something about blocking the intersection and the judge diagreed with him saying you have the right to clear the intersection and she was not at fault. Now given he shouldnt have hit her but this just goes to show how messed up this state is that they will swing whatever way they like at any given time.

Mmm depends on the situation.

You have the right to clear the intersection, yes. If the light is green and I enter, say to turn left if I don't have a protected lane, then I have the right to clear the intersection when the light changes.

If the traffic is at a stop in front of me and I enter the intersection with NO ready plan of escape once the light changes (I just pulled forward to get my ass in there and when the light changes I'm gonna still be sitting there trying to go straight) then that's blocking the box.

Either way, no one has the right to HIT you. I can see why the judge ruled against the green-light driver, no matter the circumstances.

good, because blocking like that is also bad for emergency vechicles to get through.. that's why at any T-intersection or driveway entrance, I leave room.. you just never know if some ambulance or fire truck that needs to come through. It's about time they did something useful instead of pulling loud cars over.
