Default How to tell if an engine is 2003 or 2004??

Hi,

I bought a swapped Impreza 93 with a WRX engine...

The guy told me it was an 03 engine/tranny but the car also has swapped interior/cluster and I realised it was from an 04.

Is there any simple way to be sure if my engine and ecu are from an 03 or 04???

I bought a TurboXS Unichip made for 02-03 thinking I had a 2003 but if I have a 2004, I guess I can't use it? I was able to plug it in and start the car... would it be possible if I have an 04 engine/ecu??

I think the ecu was modified in 2004 right?? open loop/closed loop is different and mbc is a big no... so it would not be safe to run this unichip I think??

Thanks

The unichip wont work with the newer ECU. Your best bet if the engine is an 04...

Sell your 04 ECU. Spent $100 on an 02-03 ECU and throw on your unichip.

Look at the plug on the turbo inlet hose towards the compressor side of the turbo. There is a plug there that has a harness connection on it and also a hose that goes to the the PCV valve. If there is a connection that also goes to the turbo inlet hose then it's an 04 engine. Also, the location/design of the PCV valve also changed in 04+ cars. The 04 cars have a PCV that screws into the block at about 3 o'clock position from the point described above. Good luck.

Look at the label on the front of it and post the numbers you see there. I'll tell you once I see them what it is.

Nope... hook up a laptop with ecuExplorer on it and it'll tell you the ecu ID/map ID. That will at least tell you what revision it's flashed for. Other then that, there's no way to know AFAIK.
