Question Target Boost Question

Would running a cat-free TBE affect my Target Boost while running AP Stage 2. I've heard cat-free affects back pressure and wasn't sure if that would also affect hitting TB. Would like to see you what you guys thought before running the HWG map. Not too worried about being 2 psi away from TB but would be nice to hit the mark.

James

You want as little back pressure as possible on a turbo car. Having restrictions (e.g., a cat) will prevent you from hitting target boost. However, if you have a high-flow cat, it shouldn't place much restriction at mid to high end and won't affect the target boost much.
Also, 0.2 PSI below target boost is ok, but 2 PSI is A LOT! for 02-05 wrx the stock boost level is 13.5 PSI and the AP stage 2 target boost level is 15.8. If at stage 2 you are 2 PSI below the target boost, then there's something seriously wrong with your car or setup.

Do you think adjusting the wastegate actuator arm would help at all? Or is that more for getting rid of the flutter sound and boost spike.

Could you tell me what mods you have on the car first? What boost level are you hitting?

I am not sure if AP stage 2 can take headers but other people can confirm that. Did you check for any leaks? A leak especially in the uppipe may prevent you from hitting the target boost. What TBE are you running?

I can triple check but last time I checked I didn't have any leaks in the setup. Perrin DP and Borla Hush CB

That's weird. Are you reading from the AP live boost or your boost gauge?

Try with your AP cuz that's the most accurate reading. It's what your ECU sees. Your boost gauge could be off.
Did you just put the TBE on and went to stage 2, or have you been at stage 2 for a while and just noticed the boost drop?

I see. Yeah check your AP live boost reading and see if you still only get 13.5 PSI. Oh by the way, how were you checking your max boost? what gear were you in and were you going at WOT?

I wouldn't think of checking it until at least 3rd. But I would usually check it WOT in 4th or 5th. I would punch it until the boost stopped going up.

OK at least you checked it the right way. Well I guess there's not much we can do until you read the live boost from AP. One thing though, did the car feel faster? Stage 2 and stock are completely different cars.

I did the wastegate actuator mod to get near target boost on Stage 2. It also helped quiet the flutter, and the car is a totally different animal. It was very easy, just watch your boost carefully for spikes. I used my AP and seen a high reading of 15.7 lbs.

Did you get a chance to read your AP live boost? If it really is 13.5 PSI then you can try adjusting the wastegate like the previous two posts suggested.
