Post Q- intake and hesitation

Hi all-

Well I am very happy with my first week of full-fledged GT ownership. but I have a question. the car has a JC Sports intake on it, and hesitates noticeably if attempting to launch in 1st gear from a standing start. It hung my wife out to dry the other day as she attempted to make a left turn across traffic on a busy street. She made it, but it was harrowing for her when she put her foot in it only to have car hang there for a moment.

1) What causes this?

2) is there a fix?

Thanks in advance-

Lucien

My guess is that by putting on the weapon R intake, although it gives increases in horsepower, there is a noticeable loss of torque. At least that's what a lot of members on this board have posted. How high was your wife running the engine at when trying to make the turn (if it is, in fact, a manual)? I would suggest revving the engine higher before engaging the clutch.

I could be wrong, though.

Might this also be the dreaded low-speed hesitation that Hobiegary made that fix for? Essentially, his theory (backed up by some engineering work) is that the knock sensor is overly sensitive on 97-99 2.5l engines and retards spark under hard acceleration from a stop, thinking that some other internal engine noise (piston slap?) is actually knock.

my 97 does that, too. but i think it did it before the intake, and i just chalked it up to a subaru engineering flaw. kind of like the surging at a stop when the a/c is on.

I have the weapon R intake and have the same problem from time to time. What I did to fit the problem was to disconnect the negative wire from the battery for a 1/2 an hour. Then reconnect the wire and turn on your car BUT do not touch the gas. When the engine had gone down to idle, turn off car. Now turn the car back on and drive it hard, light, go to red line, drive it like you would every day. Now you have just reset the computer. I hope this helps
