Default GT37R? Would it work on a STi?

I saw a post on Evom...about AMS coming out with a gt37r kit for EVO.

A guy already has run a 9.9@144+ on a full weight car...from what they say spool up is about 300 rpm worse then a 35r but the turbo can produce 50-70more whp..

Anybody know more about this turbo??

Is it a hybrid like a 30/40?

Thanks

Here you go:
http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...hlight=40%2F37

The exhaust side is bigger and has a twin scroll entry. The compressor is a tad smaller than the reg. Dual BB 35R.

Garrett themselves rate the gt37 for 550hp max compared to 600hp max for the gt35. The gt37 does use a significantly larger turbine wheel but a slightly smaller compressor wheel. It would be interesting to see how it actually performs though since I have absolutely no experience with either...

I know the guy whom is running that turbo if its the guy from chicagoland. There is at least 2 STis whom are being built on opposite coasts right now with this turbo as their centerpiece. Numbers should be out late april/march for one of them, the other late march. I'll AIM them and see if they wanna chime in, I don't think its really my place to say otherwise.

Turbos work different with each application.

A 30/40 works great on Honda 1.8-2.0's that rev to 9K+ plus...but have a hard time on EJ20s

Seeing this turbo work on the AMS EVOs on the dyno 710+whp and run some 9 second 1/4mile Ets is promising.

IMHO theres to much of a jump between a 35r and a 40r.

I'm just checking into new turbos...the 1.06 housing has always been a option for my car...but who knows something like the hybrid AMS type 37r maybe a better option.

i think AMS already mentioned that their GT37r turbo is not the GT37 that Garrett has...

The don't talk much about what constitutes their 37r turbo though...

I think it would be a very interesting turbo to try out... I myself have been mulling over it... but I am not sure whether to just go from my .63 35r to a .82 exhaust housing.... or just go to a .63 version of the 37r that AMS has...

have you compared turbine flow from the 37 to the 40R? What are you more concerned about, spool or overall power? When i looked at the 37 hotside, it is huge compared to my 40R hotside from memory, so the 40R may spool faster and possibly make more power with the larger compressor as well, but i havent looked at the 37 much.

the 40r will out do the 37R that AMS has (and they readily admit it), but this is a middle of the road turbo between the 35r and the 40r i believe...

WOW! your car continues to get faster and faster. Now that you have that HYDRA you have no tuning limitation, but you'll still have mechanical and fuel obstacles to tackle.

can't wait to see you car timed the way it is now! if only the rain would stop in this mo' fo'

In the month of March it rained 25 out of 31 days..there was very little racing going on around here.

I have gotten to go up against a few cars on the road like a SZ55 Sti but no real hardcore racing @ the track.

it is a custom built turbo. Talk to ams, but they wont release specifics.

I am looking into it for our evo. The car they tested it on, i believe, is a 2.3 liter, but i could be wrong.

The 35R .63 is what most evo owners use.... and what we are using.... I see full spool on the 2 liter motor at 4800 rpm (25psi on pump) but can rev to 8400, so the 37R hybrid wouldnt be sooo bad. I am going to possibly use one (if not a 42R LOL and 2.3) if we fully build the 2 liter.
