Everything I posted is what I noticed. I was on my way out the door to meet up with people, and it's raining like balls outside tonight, so I just grabbed my mom's Forester and left.

I'll have to investigate more tomorrow.

if the CEL is flashing it means its "dont drive it" bad, fyi if you're going down the road and you get a flashing CEL you are supposed to pull over immediately. as opposed to a solid CEL light on which you can keep going until you can get it pulled.

that said you have a code that needs reading, you probably have a sensor thats borked. perhaps a connection got wet since it is raining like balls outside.

have you done any type of wiring that could have gotten wet and caused that type of issue?

I do have a bunch of aftermarket wiring in the car, but I don't know how any of that could cause something as nasty as what I felt.

Nope, haven't done the spark plugs since I bought the car in 2003. I'm guessing/hoping it's something as simple as that.

Suggestions?! I don't know if this is something that can be handled by inviting one of my mechanic uncles over, or if I need dealer/import specialist help. Anything mechanical is usually far over my head.

you need to get the code scanned first. since the CEL is flashing I wouldnt drive it anywhere to have that done, either find someone with a code scanner or see if a parts store like autozone will loan you a scanner. i think they will.

Well, I had an issue, sans the CEL, like this, where the car would shudder at idle, hard acceleration, backfiring, etc. The plugs and wires were fried. Ran like a champ afterwards.

I know some BEs had Champion spark plugs from the dealership, I would guess that that's the problem. How many miles?

I think I got a similar experience when I went to Jiffy lube and the dimwits put my airbox back together incorrectly.

This was after I tried to tell them;

No I don't want synthetic
No I don't want my windshield wipers replaced
No I don't want the air filter replaced.

Aw hell no.

Yes, much before the swap. It was pouring down rain, and I had put it off the oil change a few weekends. I thought it would be a quick and easy fix.

Then the person I first talked to after the oil change, had the nerve to ask if my car had issues was when I pulled in.

There was one "Subie" knowledgeable person who knew what the issue was and fixed it, but I haven't gone back since.

I have a couple of free "oil changes" from a Subie dealership, but I'm not sure I'll use the last two free oil changes there either.

Bad misfiring? I would check the wires and plugs.

You said it was raining like hell when it did this? I dunno the LGT to well, well any Subaru that well. But I've seen alot (ALOT) of problems involving the crank/cam Positioning Sensor caused by dampness. That will cause the engine to misfire and run like total crap (like your discribing)

After checking the plugs wait for everything to be nice and dry and turn it on. If the problem doesnt rear its ugly head then its probably something to that effect.

Oh yeah, definately try to pull the code before you do anything.
