Default A few questions before I jump in... 2.5L sb swap

As of now I am done spending money on modding my 2.0L just for the simple fact I want that low end torque that the 2.0L simply cannot deliver. I have read forms, researched, asked people's opinions and talked with a friend of mine, everyone seems to like the 2.5L shortblock swapped into a WRX. I will be using the WRX heads, accessories and getting all new gaskets, oil pump etc. I don't know if I will be getting a stock 2.5 sb from Subaru or a Crawford S2, that for now is undecided. I am wanting in the 350whp range and I am wanting it streetable and very reliable and to be in the mid to low 12's quarter mile range. I do know that I want to retain use of the 5 speed that's in my car now but upgraded with RA gears and a new clutch. Another thing I am undecided on is a turbo, I have heard some say GT35r (better get the S2 block) but I doubt the budget right now can call for that... others have used the VF34/39, or 20G what would you suggest on that? Anything else I should be considering that I have not mentioned? I know I will have to look into injectors, fuel pump, larger TMIC or FMIC depending on the turbo, also I have an accessport for the tuning, but I don't know if the accessport could handle the GT35r setup... Just let me know what you all think.

I can't imagine RA gears holding up to much beyond an 18g or 20g on a 2.5L but it all depends on how you drive it. People have had good sucess with an 18g and the 2.5L WRX hybrid combo. Look in the proven power forum for that sort of setup.

Well with the 05, its not worth messing with the tranny unless your doing PPG or 6 Speed, u already have stronger 5speed. Until we know how stong the 06's are. I would buy the upgraded block, or u can have the new subaru block done. Drop in pistons, what ever brand u like. Then comes turbo, well thats up to you, depends on what u want out of the car. AutoX then a 18g or a 20g on a 2.5 would kick but. Anything more then that i would say a Green. Those should all be in budget. But also think of a Boost Controller also Dtec's are good but something other then Manual and Stock. Also since u will have the motor apart try to find yourself some STI cams that would help the over all #'s a alot, and there drop in. However u would need to set the lash, and prob pickup a few buckets. That should have u set. The trans is going to be the expensive thing, u can do a 6 speed for resonable if you try, u dont have to do the brembo's and all that goes along with that. Just do some research. Those things are NICE but $$$ is deciding factor there are many other things more important.

Yeah I hear the 05 trans is stronger... I dont like the 6 speed to be honest and yeah the other stuff like brembo's are nice but I dont need all that. Could em handle the boost instead of a controller? Also the car wont be autox'd, basically just a few runs down the dragstrip just to get the numbers. I just want more than I have now but I dont need a Ferrari killer... LOL!

20g or 18g, Boost #'s will determin the need for a Boost Controller or not. To be honest 350whp is nothing to laugh about. So u are going to have to run some serious stuff. Its easy to make 300 on a 2.5, 350 is seems to be a lot harder honestly i think u might want to look at a green with some meth/water injection. With the EBC.

I am sitting at 350 hp right now with a 18g and meth on the EJ205 2.0L just so you know. 350hp is not hard to hit at all.

How untrue. Your tune will cause knock problems. The WRX heads BONE stock are good to up to 450 hp.
