Default LSD installation

Hi all

I have an 02 Forrester L 5spd and I've got a new factory rear LSD sitting in my garage....I was wondering if anyone can tell me if this is going to be a simple swap or are other parts needed?
Is the installation difficult?

TIA!

Miata.net is a good reference, just to get an idea of the scope of the project. Look here:

I have a feeling you'll need a helper and some pretty good tools. Get some rhino ramps and a breaker bar, too.

Do you just have the differential or the complete unit with gears & housing? If you just have the bare differential you'll need the help of a drive line shop to set it up. If you have the complete unit with gears & housing you should be able to install it yourself depending on your mechanical skills. Let us know how it works out. How much did the diff cost you?

Good luck
Chuck

Yes. I have the complete unit with gears & housing. I'm having it professionally installed so I don't have to fool with it. It cost me about $1K. I didn't do any research on the cost of a factory LSD before I bought the car.....I knew it would be expensive but I didn't think it would be THAT expensive. Makes me wish I spent the extra money at first to get the "S" trim level on the car. It would have cost less over all. Oh well....live and learn.

Hope it goes well for you, Clay. The LSD and four-wheel discs were the primary factor in my choosing S over L. There are times when I wish I could have some of the L features, though - like steelies when I scratch an alloy, or unpainted bumpers and cladding when I get the painted ones skinned up in parking lots (or trail running ).
