Off-topic - saw a bumpersticker on an early (read: slow) Vanagon the other day: Farfrommovin :-)
Try this for a simple fix - if nobody sits in back often, pull the seatbelt ALL the way out until the tensioner reverses, then slowly let the slack back in, buckle it, and let the rest of the slack feed back. When someone sits there, you'll have to repeat the process of course... |

rear seatbelt spool CLICKS!
OK, I have finally tracked down the annoying clicking that has been comming from the back seat area....
I had my wife drive the car around as I roamed the back seat (and became car sick ) and found the noise to be coming from inside the back C-pillar (or whatever it's called). When we got home I investigated... I found that the belt spool toggles on it's axle! and I could duplicate the sound by tapping it with my finger that was squezed in there. Now, how do I go about silencing the beast? It's really the only "noise" the car has, and will only become more pronounced once I put my suspension in I'm sure. Does anyone know how to take the back seat out? - I think I need to do this to get at the seat belt spool. I can put some thick self-stick felt between the spool and the carrier... but I can't get in there any experience??? anyone else hear this click/clunking on their Legacy? thanks for reading -Chad |

taking out the back seat is pretty easy. undo the 2 bolts holding down the bottom cushion, then lift the cushion up from the middle to get it off a latch. undo the 3 bolts that hold the top cushion on. then lift and pull out. there's a hook on each side holding it in.

iBlue: He's talking about where the rear seatbelt disappears into the car at the top.
The 'C' pillar is the third set of pillars that support the roof. On a Sedan, it is the pillar between the back door and the rear window. The 'A' pillar is the one by the windshield, and the 'B' pillar is the one between the front and rear doors. And, if you have a wagon (an ultra-cool GT like mine ), the 'C' pillar is behind the door (like the sedan), and the 'D' pillar is at the very back. **- Eric ****'98 2.5 GT Wagon - Pics - Page - ****ICQ #: 9292601 [This message has been edited by Radio Flyer (edited May 23, 2001).] |

Cool on the simple fix! will try it today... seems like it should work, putting some tension on the belt.
Thanks! |
