Default A very old speeding ticket

So the other day I get a call from a very pushy woman who says she's with a collection agency and is collecting on a speeding ticket I got in Manitoba in 1997. Other than a moment when I thought the whole thing was an identity theft scam, I decided I should just pay it rather than get hounded by some hungry collector. But then someone at work told me that you can't collect on outstanding balances older than two years. So my current inclination is to tell her to go piss up a rope ( or some equivalant that is more PC).

Any advice ?

Try a credit counseling service for free advice. The 211 line should be able to suggest someone.

Hmmm... I busted a door in university in 1994... They tracked me down in Calgary late last year... $700... $200 plus 11 years of interest. I decided to pay it finally so it would go away.

an old roommate took apart all the stalls in the women's washroom in hs res and had to pay $2000 (University rate) to put them back together.

He still says it was worth it.

Ask them to provide validation on the debt, by mail. That includes providing you all receipts and documents that prove that you owe the debt.

A collection agency working on beahlf of ICBC did this to me a few years ago. What they eventually did was put a posting on my credit rating, and I had to pay them to have it removed.

If you're dealing with a collection agency, they will screw you good.

Sigh. I guess I'll pay up. There goes another 90 bucks from my GT-35R fund

So that puts me back to <punches numbers on HP calc> : -$46.33
